I've got about 1300 miles on my SXT (with automatic, due to knee issues). Overall, I really like the vehicle a lot, have not had any real problems with it.

HOWEVER ... once the vehicle is warmed up, the transmission insists on activating the torque converter at a mere 28mph if there is no pressure on the accelerator. This is ridiculous, as the engine drops to about 1200rpms, which is inadequate for a vehicle that size with a V-6 engine. If I'm stuck in traffic (or in a 30mph speed zone), I constantly have to tap the gas to disengage the TC for the appropriate rpms.

The dealership (and Customer Service) insist that all of the Nitros do this ... well almost all Chrysler products ... a fuel savings thing.

End result is that driving between 25-35mph is awful. Make that 25-45mph, as the Overdrive wants to kick in way too early too, but at least I can hit the inconveniently locate Tow/Haul button to keep the rig from jumping to OD too soon.

So much to like about this vehicle, if they could only admit that the settings are wrong. ("Well, nobody else has complained about this...........")

Aargh.

There were some issues with the torque converter listed on some of the recent TSB's. Do a search for transmission TSB's for the Nitro and see if you can convince your dealer that you are having some of those issues. They will do the trans flash and I know for a couple of Nitro owners it smoothed out the shifts. Maybe that is all you need.

It's not a bug, it's a feature

Y'know ... the more I read on this forum (and another Nitro forum), it looks like Chrysler is taking a page from Micro$oft's playbook ... they like programming things that THEY think are good, regardless of whether the customer does or not.

Repeat after me ... "It's not a bug, it's a FEATURE!!!"

The only thing that could be worse is if Chrysler starts installing Sync.

Then we would be dealing with tech support in India asking if we rebooted before calling them.

What's the best way to do this? Is there an official repository somewhere, or is it a "Google It" proposition?

I use the web.

But then again, I am a network administrator so it is like using an arm to most.

Sync is the Micro$oft driven computer entertainment system in the new Fords.

YIKES!!!!!

I'm allergic to Micro$oft products! I'm stuck with their stuff at work, but am so happy to retreat to the Mac when I get home!

That's really good to know. I was thinking about the possibility of Micro$oft making inroads to vehicle computers, and alas, it's happened.
