Gate ajar notification always on

I've been experiencing a problem for a couple weeks now where the gate ajar light (and therefore all my internal lights) are on nearly all the time, even though I *know* the gate is firmly secured. I took it to the dealership and they "fixed" it... I wasn't even out of the parking lot when the lights came back on.

Turned it right around, and was told they were going to order a new latch for it. This was 12/31, haven't heard anything yet.

this is a problem that older Fords used to have. It appears that the sensor is grounded through the latch at the base of the tailgate. If there is any grease or white lube on it, it will not make a good ground and the sensor will read open. I have not had this happen on my R/T yet, but I always clean off the latch and put some WD40 on it. WD40 unlike white lubes is a good conductor of electricity and it helps to displace water. If that is not it, the only suggestion that I would have is to have the dealer check to make sure the bottom hook on the latch mechanism is properly grounded. Either way, I would make them look at it again if it isn't too much of a pain to get there.

Took it to a different (and closer) dealership who said they were willing to do the warranty work. They said the same thing, that it needed a new latch, and that they'd have it in by monday or tuesday. They did however, disable the switch, which the incompetant people at the original dealership didn't even think to do. Now it doesn't tell me when the back gate IS open, but atleast I don't have the dome lights in my face all the time.

They also did the recall updates while they had it there, another thing the dealership I purchased the car from didn't bother with.

As a side-note, i would highly recommend that anybody in the Rochester, NY area avoid the Fernandez dealership in Wolcott. I've had nothing but problems with them since the moment they handed me the keys.

I have the same issue with my "door" warning on intermitently. Did they pull the relay, as this is what I'm thinking of doing. The more electronic BS you have the more problems, I think.
