Re: My Nitro sounds like a diesel

Whitewolf, I know exactly what sound you are referring to because my R/T is doing the exact same thing. Try this, have you wife leave the R/T in drive with her foot on the brake, and with the engine running lean on one of the valve covers and see if the sound goes away. Mine does, seem like a motor mount or something that has gotten a little to close to the vibrating engine.

Re: My Nitro sounds like a diesel

Whoa whoa Calm down guys. Some of the nitros that came out early did have problems. Its a new line not everything is perfect on it. If his Nitro sounds like a diesel its possible it could have just been a bad portioin of the assembly line. Just because some nitros sound like diesels doesnt mean they all do. So just relax Dodge will fix the problem they just need a little time. As you were told they are aware of the problem. Just let them figure it out. I might take them a little time but im sure there will be a recall on the ones that have problems. Its nothing to argue about.

Re: My Nitro sounds like a diesel

I've had my R/T for a week now (yes I waited for MyGig, and totally worth it) and I don't think it's loud enough. You listen to the commercial when the gentlemen "jump" starts the car and that nitro sounds great. Mine sounds like a car.
The best thing is that my wife is the one who picked it over both the Lincoln MKX and the Infinity FX35. Both of those sound like cars and are supposed to but the Nitro?
This thing needs a cat-back or something, sounds WAY too tame.

Re: My Nitro sounds like a diesel

I don't think you gentlemen get it!.......I'm not talking about the exaust!.....It's the knocking and rattle thats in the ENGINE!........The sound of the exaust has nothing to do with it! Although a nice throaty sounding exaust would help........maybe even coverup the rattle and knocking.......And there are a fewmore things wrong with my R/T........Transmission........Air bags screwed up.......U-jouint noise.......and most exciting of all Is the surging it does when you drop it in gear.....either reverse or forward ......I've had to lock up the brakes more than once to keep from hitting something or someone.......My R/T was built 12-14-06.........And I knew better than to buy a new production model straight outa the shute.....But too soon old ....too late smart.....I've done it before and .....no trouble.....but not this time. One last comment.......I in no way am saying that all Nitro R/T's will have the problems I'm having.......just want you to know that things are happening and to be careful........And from the E'mails I'm getting......I'm not alone on the engine rattle -knocking situation....They don't say anything in here for fear of the bad mouthing they will get from the socalled know-it-all's........Dodge is working on this.......I hope they get a a handle on it.......I have a date with the Dodge Customer Service Rep.........we will see what we will see.....Wolfie BTW... IF you want to hear a real sweet sound ....you should hear the Magnaflow....X pipe ...true duals .....on my 6.L SSR ....Now there's some sound for ya.....and it is quick!....And it gets much better gas mileage than the R/T.........WW

Re: My Nitro sounds like a diesel

I have to agree...but when I bought it, it wasn't so noisey.

Not only does it rattle ...it will stall out just driving down the road.

I'm keeping it for a few more months and then going to dump it off on the next sucker.

Looks good...but a big hunk of junk

BTW, I pulled up to one of the newer Dodge Diesels today. If your Nitro sounds like that, I can't believe you even took delivery of the car. I'd be afraid to drive it if it was that bad.
Of the 5 or 6 Nitros I've driven & been around, including both 3.7s & 4.0s, none of them sounded even close to that. Mine has over 4000 miles on it with no sounds even close.

Cool Mine sounds funny also...

I woudn't call it a diesel sound but deffinetly doesn't sound like a NEW unleaded motor should. Mine sounds like it has an exhaust leak... but I can see where it would bear sound resemblence of a really quiet diesel. My uncle works as a mechanical dept manager at a local respectable body shop... His top mechanic is a mopar nut and he told me the 3.7/4.0 motors are junk anyway. Which I don't keep cars very long so I plan on trading before the warranty goes out. Hopefully I can enjoy it and not have it break done on me until then.

-whitewolf- Keep taking it back to dodge until they do something about it... To the point of annoying them and keep it up. I had a buddy that did this and they paid off his truck!
