Wink Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

Now that some of you have the Nitro. How is the fuel mileage? Everything I have read says it is not good or not what the sticker has printed on it. I ordered my R/T sight un-seen, I saw the photo and had to have it. No matter what the mileage is I am keeping it.

We've been getting about 15 in the city and about 20 on the last roadtrip to Ca.

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

I get approximately 15.5 City and 18.6 on the highway. I don't have a lead foot so I am still shocked over how far off the 17/24 MPG that the sticker indicated.

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

When I first got my Nitro it was getting 16 t0 17, one month latter its up to 18.5 . I think it will get better after 3000 miles. I drive with a light foot and live in the country. My last Dodge Ram 1500 took a year to get top mileage.

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

I have almost 4000 miles on mine now and I'm getting an average of 22 mpg. This is a combination of city and highway driving. I commute an hour to work everyday.

One thing I have noticed, if I use chevron, I get better fuel mileage. I noticed this when I had my F-150 also. Don't understand why. Thought maybe it was because of the engine size in the F-150 because it didn't like 87. It would spit and sputter like it was being choked. In the beginning with the Nitro it didn't seem to matter, but now that it has a few thousand miles on it, I can see a noticable difference.

Anyone notice anything like that?

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

I get better mileage and it runs better from BP. Some gas causes mine to bog before it catches and takes off. High flash point or something screwey.

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

I just had my onboard computer reprogrammed today at the dealership and I must say that the surging sensation seems to have gone away. The technician thinks that the mileage will get better too. 3600 miles and its first oil change. Woohoo!!!

22.07 after flashing the computer. Took "guzzle" to OC, MD and back (approx. 97 miles driven) and it took a little over 4 gallons of gas. Much better mileage now.

Re: Dodge Nitro Fuel Mileage

On my 3rd tank. 1st tank 15.9 and a lot of that was highway 2nd tank 14.17 and this was mostly city stop & go.

Yeah, hope the engine "loosens up" and I see at least the advertised mileage. What's this "flashing" the computer? Should the dealers know about this?
