Breaking: Nitro/Liberty plant production to shut down
Thursday, September 25, 2008
Chrysler officials aren't talking, but workers are. Workers tell 13abc that tomorrow is their last day and the plant will be shut down for three weeks.
We have learned the Toledo North Assembly Plant is shutting down some production earlier than planned, this because of sagging sales of the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro.
Workers we spoke with Wednesday night said the shutdown was scheduled to begin at the end of October, but was moved up because of slowing sales of both the Nitro and the Liberty. Employees say they're scheduled to be back at work on the lines October 20th.
As far as we know, this shutdown would not affect the Wrangler production lines, only the Nitro and Liberty. Despite last night's numerous attempts to reach union leaders or a Chrysler spokesperson for comment, our phone calls were not returned.

You may remember over the summer this plant was shutdown for two months, six weeks longer than usual, because of poor sales of the Nitro and Liberty. This fall shutdown comes one month after employees returned to work.
