Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

I hope your dealer is correct and you are actually getting the full-time 4WD. Let us know if he back-tracks on you, or tells you the Nitro will be delayed. If the full-time 4WD units are ready for production, I'll wait until the end of January and order the R/T with My GIG.

My question, will they have the R/T done by May of 2007?

Uh, you've asked that question at least twice. Yes the R/T is available for order now. Should be 10-12 weeks for delivery. The only question remains is can you or can you not get the 4-wheel drive full-time transfer case.

I'm guessing R/Ts will come with the part-time case until in the summer when it says the full-time is available. But that's just based on what the ARI site said.

As soon as people start getting delivery we'll know for sure.

Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

Went by my Dodge dealership today with my wish list. We discussed the full-time 4WD versus part-time. Basically, the full-time 4WD is not something the dealerships are thinking about because they keep selling out of all the units they take into stock. That sounds terrible, but they can sell all they can get. They took delivery of two part-time 4WD drive units late yesterday. My salesman claims they have no avenue to request an availability date of the full-time 4WD, but the July date is a rumor they have floating around as well. If there are any dealerships out there that know differently, now is the time to chime in. (How about it AVONDALEDODGE?)

He said that you can select full-time 4WD on the computer order screen, but there is every likelyhood that the part-time unit will be installed at the factory. He said I can take my chances if I like, but there would no guarantees, not from them. There are two places you can check for full-time versus part-time 4WD on any new NITRO. The obvious place is the window sticker. It will have the transfer case type printed on the left column on the sticker. The other way is to simply look in the vehicle. If there is a rotary dial 2WD/4WD selector switch on the center console, it is not full-time 4WD.

He say's the full-time 4WD will not have a switch, because it is after all, full time. If anyone has failed to notice, looking at the '07 sales brochure, all SLT and R/T models were supposed to have the full-time 4WD unit [i]standard[i], and DCX carefully included no photographs of any interior with 4WD. I guess this doesn't bug the rest of you the way it's buggin' me. The way I look at it, it's not that the full-time 4WD is a no-cost option, it's that it is included in the price, and if you can't get it as standard, then the part-time unit substitution should be a reduction in cost, not be the same cost.

I second MyBluNITRO's request. I too have not been able to find out from my local Dealer or any other source about ordering a Full-Time 4X4 R/T. Please response if you have any genuine info on this issue. THANKS!

Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

I checked back with the dealer that I ordered FT 4-WD on my Nitro R/T build (see my earlier note). I asked " what's the story on July 07 rumor for FT?" He said the computer really did take the order for FT (not PT) but he would double check everything and call me back when he had an answer. That was last Thursday - this is Sunday night and no call yet - Monday I'm pinging him again - standby.

Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

I haven't heard from my dealer since Thursday. I told him not to order anything without first telling me when the Full Time 4WD will be available. I don't think he knows what he is talking about anyway. I have never seen a 4 wheel drive of any type that doesn't at least have a button to switch from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive, unless it is billed as All Wheel Drive. I guess, in order to preserve what little sanity I have remaining, I will try not to think about ordering anymore until a) My dealer calls me with some good news, or b) July rolls into view and it's time to make something happen.

Tim

P.S. My dealer told me that in recent years Dodge has not been switching over model years until September, so ordering in July will still be an '07 model, providing there is not a huge delay at the factory, you know, like the Jeep factory that is building the Nitro going into full production of the '08 Jeep Liberty!

Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

Reply 3 on this Full Time 4WD delivery issue:
Dealer ran a check for me on the "Restrictions" list for ordering. There are no restrictions on FT 4WD - the order is good. Supposedly if it is July 07 for first delivery, it would be on that list - too far out. He said they have a pre-spec demo coming in by end of month that is supposed to be R/T with 4WD. He's calling me as soon as it gets in to let me know if it came with the FT 4WD. Does anyone else have update on this?

Re: Full-time 4WD (July 10, 2007)

From the spec sheet, Part time is required with the manual transmission. The Full time is required with the 4 or 5 speed auto....

Transfer Case
— Part-time 4WD system 143 GII New Venture Gear (4x4 only; requires 6 speed manual)
— Full-time 4WD system 140 New Venture Gear (4x4 only; requires 4-speed or 5-speed automatic)
