Gas Overflowing

12/6/10
To everyone that has the problem with the gas overflowing on the 2007 Dodge Nitro when attempting to fill the tank - PLEASE INCLUDE IN YOUR REPORT TO THE NHTSA that this is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and your car could possibly explode in a rollover accident. I have read that this is a manufacturing defect, and that Chrysler knows about it. Had I been more thorough when filing my complaint with NHTSA I would have included this information. Now I am getting ready to write to NHTSA, as it appears I cannot add to the ODI I have on file with them. I will also be bringing this dangerous situation to the attention of the others I mentioned previously that I will be writing to. You are possibly driving a dangerous vehicle. This is about more than gasoline spilling at the gas station !!!! Please, everyone, get the word out there. We need to get Chrysler to issue a recall on this vehicle NOW !!! If you already have an ODI on file with NHTSA, then write to them and tell them this additional information and stress how dangerous this is.

Thank you.
