Lots of Steam

Hi Everyone,

I bought my Dodge Nitro about a month ago. After a heavy rain, I noticed steam coming up from the front of the car. If I had seen that much in my old car I would have thought it overheated. It seemed like a lot. Temp gauges were fine, so I figured that it was perhaps a Nitro trait. Have other people experienced this? Is there a way to decrease the amount of steam?

Thanks!

Re: Lots of Steam

It is funny that you mentioned that because I have found that mine does the same thing occassionally. It typically is in the morning drive for me. I told my husband about it but we could not find anything wrong. When it was doing it, I stopped to check it out and did not smell anti-freeze. I haven't noticed it as much lately as the weather has warmed up a bit.

Re: Lots of Steam

I also had alot of steam come from under my hood after I took it thru a car wash. It must be a common problem.

lots of steam

I've noticed too a couple times after i just started it while backing out in the dark thinking it was a little oil or something on the engine burning off but the other day, wow. After washing nitro and spraying thru rad fins to remove bugs and letting dry. A few hrs later on a midnite run, did I ever see steam coming out the front end. It was actually condensating too but it being nite time i couldn't see where it was actually escaping because the wiper reservoirs are in the damn way I'LL REPOST WHEN I SEE ROOT CAUSE and all levels of coolants appear normal.

Dodge Nitro excessive steam

I have a client with the same problem. The steam/smoke presents after it rains or she takes it through a car wash. She has brought it in several times but of course the dealer says it can't duplicate or diagnose the problem.

I'm hoping someone can share the cause and solution.

it is a common problem with the Nitro.

My dealer said he had never heard of it and I pointed him to a thread on another board. It would appear that it is just a Mopar thing.
