UPDATE:

AIR SYSTEMS

Cold Air Intake Systems
What's so great about cold air intakes? Cold air is much denser than
hot, humid air and holds more oxygen. More oxygen going into an
engine equals more combustion, thus more power. The Mopar Cold Air
Intake System increases airflow by as much as 20%, boosting torque
up to ten lbs., and power by nearly ten horsepower. All of this while
improving fuel economy (one to two mpg depending on driving style).
Air filters are high-flow and low-restriction, offer better throttle response
and increased filtration and horsepower. Filters are made of a new dry
media material which is washable and reusable. Do not oil.

Both of these kits are available to order from your Local Dealership and using the above part numbers to search, from MOPAR and Dealership “Online” Stores.

You might be surprised that your Local Dealership may match any lower price that you find “On-Line”. When I ordered my MOPAR CAI and exhaust I received discounts on both purchasing from my servicing Dealership, and also saved on shipping charges.

I decided to buy both from my Dealership and have them install by them, since my 07 has the free “Lifetime Powertrain Warranty” plus I purchased their seven year extended Service Contract, too. I wanted to make sure that if there was an issue in the future they could not say my Nitro had been modified (it sure is) with NON-MOPAR Factory parts.

Even if you install a non-MOPAR CAI (or exhaust) they should not deny warranty coverage on other factory items covered by warranty.

In my case this might have been a smart move.

Error Code PO 441

After modifying both the air intake and exhaust I continued to get Engine Error Codes that may have been caused by these modifications whenever I romped the engine (great sound!). After having the Dealership repair and cancel this code several times under warranty, only to have it reappear, I bought a digital OBD2 car reader and started resetting this error code myself.

ONE DAY before my factory three year warranty ran out I decided to take it back to my Dealership and explain what was taking place and that even purchasing both parts from them and having them install, maybe nothing could be done. I told them I had been resetting the codes and it was caused when I really got down on hard acceleration. I asked that they look at it one last time before my regular 3/36000 warranty ran out.

I’m pleased to report that whatever they disconnected or replaced I can no longer get this error code and that was four months ago! I really did not expect much effort on their part, and I suspect if I had used aftermarket parts they might not have corrected this issue!

Thanks for posting this Rick, very very useful! I rang Mopar however and they told me they have not made a CAI to suit the 2010 Nitro yet, is that correct???

What would be the difference from a 2009 or 2007? Nothing I can think of with the same body and engines. As far as I know they have never printed a 2010 MOPAR catalog yet, stopping with the 2009. That is the only reason.

Howdy Rick,

I was thinking of getting this setup at some point for my '11 Shock. Do you have any sound clips available?

Thanks.

Cy

Sorry Cy, No but it really sounds good! That is why I got the error codes since I love to romp it hard just to hear it. Sound reminds me of many Hi Performance cars I had in the past, or the ones that were not, but had their air cleaners removed! Ha Ha

Love it but I suspect someplace on the Net you could find it. There are tests that even claim more HP and better gas mileage. Don't really know about that but do recommend this add-on.
