2013 UConnect 8.4 (RA3
Adding GPS After Purchase
11/03/2012
Quote:
The latest UConnect system provides many new features to car buyers; one of them is the ability to get a car without a navigation system, and then, for a fee, add it later on. (The system debuted on the 2013 Ram 1500.)
Cars and trucks with the UConnect 8.4 (RA3) system have the navigation system preloaded; to use it, though, navigation must be activated and unlocked by dealerships. Activation of the navigation is non-refundable and cannot be deactivated; it lasts throughout the vehicle’s life (and stays with the car, not the customer). It does not include all of Uconnect 8.4AN’s features.
When the VP3 GPS navigation system is unlocked and activated, the navigation icon will appear at the bottom of the Uconnect screen. It may take up to ten minutes of unobstructed satellite signal before it becomes fully functional.
The UConnect R3 and R4 include UConnect Access, including crash notification, 911 or roadside assistance calls, monthly vehicle health reports, voice texting, WiFi hotspots (pay per use), dead-reckoning with gyro, and optional rear-seat Blu-Ray DVD player; buyers can pay $595 to upgrade it with navigation. But those who want navigation should get the R4, which costs only $500 more, and also includes HD radio.
