NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns™ Now Available in Australia
Robust traffic database includes comprehensive road coverage across Australia’s major cities, saving drivers up to 33 hours per year for an average daily commute
Sydney – 24 May 2010 – NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has announced the availability of NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns in Australia. This is the first NAVTEQ traffic product available in the Asia Pacific region, highlighting NAVTEQ’s dedicated effort to expand its content-rich, high-quality traffic information globally.
“NAVTEQ has been focused on expanding our very successful NAVTEQ traffic solutions globally, and over the last two years, we have collected more than a half a billion GPS data points to build a comprehensive traffic database in Australia,” said Howard Hayes, senior vice president for NAVTEQ Traffic. “This offering will change how Australian commuters rely on navigation, giving them alternative, time-saving routes based on quality traffic information.”
NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is a comprehensive database with information about average speed of travel for specific sections of roadways, allowing drivers to avoid typical congestion areas and rely on more accurate arrival time estimates. NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns enables applications to calculate the most ideal route based on historical traffic flow patterns, which change for various times of the day as well as days of the week. Because it functions as an attribute of the NAVTEQ© map, it can be immediately integrated into navigation systems to enable more informed routing choices. NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns is updated twice a year to reflect fresh source data.
For commuters and vehicle fleets, NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns provides speed values to help avoid traffic-congested areas, improve arrival time estimates based on likely traffic conditions at that time and day of the week, and reduce fuel costs.
Recent NAVTEQ research, including approximately 21,000 unique and extensive route tests, concluded that NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns can save Australian drivers 33 hours a year for an average, daily, roundtrip commute of 60 kilometers.
NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns for Australia includes:
* Coverage from the largest major freeways down to smaller neighborhood roads, resulting in optimal detours and city routing in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra
* Seven daily traffic models covering each day of the week
* 24-hour speed values in both 15-minute and one-hour increments, which provide the most relevant historical traffic information for specific times of day
