Sirius (US & Canada) Coming to IPhone

Sirius, XM satellite radio coming to the iPhone

Posted February 12th, 2009 at 03:17pm

Until now the absence of satellite radio apps for the iPhone was a rather big disappointment for subscribers of Sirius / XM services. However, a new satellite radio player app is promising to change all that.

uSirius uStarPlayr for iPhone is an app that will work with both Sirius and XM accounts; to be exact, StarPlayr works with Sirius Internet Radio accounts and XM Online Radio accounts. Also, most car XM or Sirius Radios come with a login that is compatible with StarPlayr.

The same number of channels are available as in Sirius’ Web player or XM Radio Online’s web player, which means approximately 80 Music and 30 talk stations are available.

uSirius Starplayr will work over Edge, 3G, and WiFi connections and will be available to residents of USA and Canada. The price will be $12.99. The app was already submitted into the AppStore by its creators — we will keep you posted once it gets there.

Sirius XM Coming to iPhone in Q2

Sirius XM Coming to iPhone in Q2

Published on March 12, 2009

sirius-iphoneIt’s taken far too long, but Sirius XM (SIRI) is coming to the iPhone. During a conference call to discuss the better than expected fourth-quarter results it posted last night, the satellite radio operator said we can expect an application that will stream its service to the iPhone and iPod touch to debut sometime in Q2. According to James Meyer, Sirius’s president of operations, that will allow the company to offer its services to an estimated 7 million iPhone/iPod Touch users in the states. Said Meyer, “This is a large and interesting opportunity that will maintain our subscription-based economics while providing customers with easy access to our content through means other than our traditional satellite-based platform.” A wise move, since Sirius needs to drive sales and consumers are cutting back on the purchase of new cars, one of the company’s main sources of new subscribers. Indeed, in its latest quarter Sirius said net subscriber growth slowed markedly, falling to 82,900 from 1.1 million.
