You Can Now Watch Live TV in a Ford

Feb 28, 2017

The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition will be the first vehicle to ever offer SlingPlayer integration.

Heading to dealerships in the U.S. this fall, the 2018 Ford Expedition has an available Wi-Fi hotspot that can support as many as 10 devices at once, up to 50 feet from the vehicle. Combined with an available dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system, the Expedition allows passengers to watch live TV via SlingPlayer on either of two video screens. SlingPlayer will connect to the user’s home Slingbox account to access TV shows and live sporting events.

The system, which includes two eight-inch monitors integrated into the back of the front-seat headrests, can be used to view other sources of content including a DVD player, HDMI, USB and SD card. Android-based smartphones equipped with Miracast streaming can send content to the system, which is also compatible with SmartStream function on iOS or Android devices. The system includes two wireless headsets and each monitor is equipped with a standard headphone jack for additional viewers.

The American automaker also announced the 2018 Ford EcoSport won’t have a CD player with millennials preferring streaming and subscription media services over CDs. Instead of a CD player, the EcoSport features a unique horizontal storage bin over the glove box for storing smartphones within reach, while also allowing for a more upright touchscreen. The 2018 Ford EcoSport also offers available Wi-Fi hotspot and SYNC Connect with FordPass.
