The big show is finally here, with new vehicles and concepts being revealed.

While Chevrolet will likely put its stamp on the show with the anticipated reveal of the 2014 Corvette, there are still plenty of other great cars to look forward to. Among them are the BMW 4 Series, the 2014 Lexus IS, 2014 Infiniti Q50, Hyundai Genesis Sedan Concept (seen above) and a new Honda Fit-based Crossover. Look for coverage starting January 13th, with more to follow on the first press day, January 14th.

Chrysler Group LLC to Feature Mopar Garage at 2013 North American International Auto Show

Walls of Mopar Accessories for Dodge Dart, Fiat 500 and SRT Viper

Chrysler Group LLC will be parking a garage at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit . . . and walls of Mopar parts and accessories for the company’s Dodge Dart, Fiat 500 and SRT Viper.

A 1,015 sq.-ft. garage exhibit will feature select Mopar parts and accessories for the all-new 2013 SRT Viper and Dodge Dart. In the Fiat display, a glass wall of Mopar parts and accessories for the Fiat 500 will also be on display. In total, more than 300 Mopar performance parts and accessories will be shown.


“Mopar offers more than 500,000 quality-tested parts and accessories throughout the world,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC’s service, parts and customer-care brand. “We want to give show-goers a glimpse of how they can personalize and accessorize some of our new vehicles and furnish their garage in full Mopar style.”

Inside of the Mopar garage will be a fully Moparized all-new 2013 SRT Viper and the Dodge Dart Slingshot. In addition to these vehicles and other parts, accessories and Moparabilia, both NHRA 2012 championship trophies won by Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson and Funny Car racer Jack Beckman will also be highlighted in the display.

For show-goers who want to create their own Mopar garage, Mopar now offers high-end commercial-grade toolboxes that feature the brand’s logo and are available in three colors: Mopar Blue, HEMI Orange and White. Mopar will also introduce a full line of standard and commercial-grade custom cabinetry. Customers may visit Mopar Authentic Gear to purchase toolboxes and other Moparabilia.

Other Moparized vehicles that will be on display include a Moparized Chrysler Town & Country and the Jeep Sand Trooper that was revealed at last year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, an ultimate off-road vehicle that highlights features from Mopar’s new Jeep Performance Parts portfolio.

• Vehicle-information apps: first to introduce smartphone vehicle-information applications, a new channel of communication with consumers
• Electronic owner manuals: first to introduce traditional owner manuals in a DVD and brief user-guide format and first to offer complete vehicle-information kits in Spanish
• Wi-Fi: first to offer customers the ability to make their vehicle a wireless hot spot
• Wireless charging: first to introduce in-vehicle wireless charging for portable devices

More than 75 Years of Mopar
Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for antifreeze product in 1937. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s — the muscle-car era. Fiat aims to revitalize its Maserati luxury brand with sedan

Fiat is hoping to reinvigorate its Maserati luxury brand with the all-new Quattroporte luxury sedan unveiled Monday at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Maserati's goal is to expand its global sales from 6,300 in 2012 to more than 50,000 by 2015, said Maserati CEO Harald Wester.

After the Quattroporte was unveiled, Wester was joined on stage by Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Fiat Chairman John Elkann.

Elkann's presence on stage, as a member of the Agnelli family that founded Fiat, underscores the importance of the launch of the redesigned Quattroporte.

Wester said Maserati expects to achieve that by launching three new products globally and in the U.S. including the new Quattroporte this year, the Ghibli midsize sedan at the end of this year and the Levante small SUV by the end of 2014.

Together, those three products will make Maserati "a genuine global player," Wester said.

The sixth-generation Quattroporte unveiled Monday is a model "which will once again shape Maserati's future," Wester said.

The all-new Quattroporte luxury sedan brings Italian style and performance to a market for $100,000-plus cars that German brands have dominated.

With industry sales in Italy sinking to their lowest level since 1979, Fiat has launched a major reorganization plan that hinges on boosting exports of luxury models from Italy to prevent plant closings.

Marchionne's plan is to sell more Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat 500 cars in the U.S. and other growing markets to stem Fiat's losses in Europe.

But last year in the U.S., Maserati sold only 630 Quattroportes and only 2,730 vehicles of all its models, while both BMW and Mercedes-Benz approached nearly 300,000.

Maserati has yet to announce a price for the Quattroporte in the U.S. market.

The redesigned Quattroporte, which will go on sale by June, gets its power from a pair of direct-injection, twin-turbo engines engineered by Maserati and built by Ferrari.

The 3.0-liter V6 produces 404 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque and accelerates to 62 m.p.h. in 4.9 seconds and reaches 177 m.p.h.

The 523-horsepower 3.8-liter V8 generates 523 pound-feet of torque, hits 62 m.p.h. in 4.9 seconds and tops out at 191 m.p.h.

The V8 Quattroporte is faster, more powerful and 20% more efficient than the outgoing model.

The interior is available in four- or five-seat configurations. Other features include WiFi, an 8.4-inch touch screen and a 15-speaker, 1,280-watt Bowers and Wilkins audio system. Maserati builds the Quattroporte in a new plant in Turin, Italy.

The car economy was badly hit since the financial crisis in 2008, with the current administration working so hard to keep it afloat, otherwise, America will suffer. In the recent Detroit Car Show in January, I have seen new cars on display, over 50 of these, and with the effort that these car manufacturers have done to have the hype during the show, it just shows a rosy start for the car industry. Among the cars that I have seen and ogled, I like best is the Maserati Quattroporte. Talking to one of the reps, the Maserati Quattroporte or ‘four doors’ is lighter and more efficient even though it is longer and wider. If only have one more room for another luxury car, apart from my Jaguar, I would love to get my hands on this car.
