New Nitro (NOT) expected for the 2012

If there’s a surprise from Dodge, it’s that they’ll build more 2011 (or 2011 and a half) Dodge Nitros, which will use up existing stores of components. Expect to see these extended-production models in Heat trim only, but with both the 3.7-liter V-6 and the 4.0-liter V-6 available. A new Nitro is expected for the 2012 model year, but expect production delays until Dodge finishes building the last of the 2011 models.

Yes that is true! Even hard to find a new one now with production to end next month.

Chrysler Announces $1.7 Billion Investment


A Dodge Nitro moves along the production line at Chrysler's Toledo North Assembly plant.

The company said it would build a replacement of the Jeep Liberty in 2013, but the Nitro is not scheduled to be made after next month. It wasn’t immediately clear what will replace the sport utility vehicle.

Through October, the factory has churned out 61,553 Libertys and 22,047 Nitros this year.

Mr. Marchionne said building the Nitro was a mistake from the beginning.

"The Nitro should have never have been built. I hate to say this, but as you can see from the vehicle, it's a knockoff of the Liberty," he said.

When Chrysler commits to a second vehicle from the new Liberty frame, that second car "has to be functionally different" from the new Liberty, he added.
