Exclamation 2011 Chrysler Brand Replacing Entire Lineup

Chrysler Brand Replacing Entire Model Lineup in ’11

Auburn Hills, Mich. , Nov 15, 2010 -

New 2011 Chrysler vehicles: Chrysler 200 and Chrysler Town & Country

The Chrysler Brand is experiencing a rejuvenation, and product is at the heart of it, replacing its full lineup with either all-new or significantly improved vehicles in just the next few months. As a sign of that change, the recently introduced all-new Chrysler winged badge logo will rightfully adorn all this new metal as it rolls out to the public.

The Brand itself is further defining itself, as well.

“What Chrysler Brand will be, and what will make it unique, is that it will give people beautiful shapes, which would otherwise be out of reach. It will always deliver a bit more than the customer expects,” said Olivier Francois, Chrysler Brand President & CEO. “At every turn, Chrysler Brand and its vehicles will deliver what people deserve, not just what they expect. It will take appointments – design, technology, and engines, to name a few – that were borne for a few and deliver them to the masses.”

Vehicles like the all-new, next generation 2011 Chrysler 300.

The iconic flagship, which has been the most awarded vehicle in automobile industry history, will debut its much anticipated, all-new model later this year.

Expect more of the head-turning styling, acclaimed driving dynamics and an even more befitting interior when this vehicle comes to market.

Then there’s the Chrysler 200.

With so much change intended for the upcoming 2011 Chrysler 200 sedan, the Company was driven to bestow a new nameplate on the car, as it deserves its own space and identity in the mid-size sedan segment. The Chrysler 200 will provide drivers a beautifully inspired sedan that doesn’t compromise safety or practicality, while offering an extraordinary level of standard content, all at a surprising value.

Including elements from the 200C show car revealed in recent years on the auto show circuit, this vehicle will now compete head-to-head with the best of the mid-size segment, be it in looks, motoring excitement, refinement… what have you. A convertible version, one that is a true four-seat sedan, will follow.

The new Chrysler 200 sedan offers consumers exceptional craftsmanship inside and out, a refined and spirited driving experience, innovative technology, an abundance of standard safety features and an extraordinary level of standard content.

Virtually every system in the sedan is new or upgraded for 2011, giving the Chrysler 200 its own identity and space in the highly competitive mid-size sedan segment. Exterior and sheet metal upgrades include: front and rear fascias and fenders, a new grille featuring the new Chrysler brand winged badge, new hood, LED positioning light pipe in front headlamps, rear deck lid and exterior mirrors, new projector headlamps and fog lamps, new LED taillamps and an LED center high-mounted stoplight.

With the all-new interior for 2011, customers will step into a level of craftsmanship, content and comfort that is world-class. The all-new instrument panel, bezels, gauge face and new Chrysler steering wheel transform the driver’s seat into an elegant atmosphere. Upgraded seats with a new design that incorporates more cushion material and revised spring geometry, as well as new leather and cloth seating materials, envelop the driver and passenger.

The new 2011 Chrysler 200 provides drivers an agile, confident, handling performance in all driving situations, whether it’s commuting to work, a weekend adventure on twisty roads or going out with family and friends. Virtually every part of the suspension has been returned or redesigned for 2011. A new and improved powertrain lineup also contributes to the new 200 sedan’s driving experience. The 2011 Chrysler 200 is offered with the proven 2.4-liter World Gas Engine or the available new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine which provides an even more exhilarating driving experience that offers customers the best of both worlds – best-in-class V-6 horsepower and exceptional fuel economy. The new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine produces 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and is mated to the 62TE six-speed transmission.

The 200 sedan is an exciting alternative for customers that want style and substance, all at a surprising value.

The starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is:

* Chrysler 200 LX: $19,995 (including $750 destination)
* Chrysler 200 Touring: $21,995 (including $750 destination)
* Chrysler 200 Limited: $24,495 (including $750 destination)

Finally, though far from least, is the Chrysler Town & Country.

First, Chrysler created a segment (luxury) in the hotly contested minivan arena, after having introduced the first minivans U.S. consumers had ever seen some 25 years ago.

Next, it refused to rest on its laurels, and upped the ante once again. All the senses will be aroused by the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

It is a beautifully inspired vehicle built with a craftsmanship, elegance and sophistication not found in other minivans. Additionally, the Town & Country provides the safety, security and driving dynamics consumers expect, with the innovative technology that keeps Walter P. Chrysler’s legacy of engineering innovations alive and well.

Town & Country remains true to the Chrysler Brand credo, including being attainable to all, rather than merely a select few.

The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan delivers great American design, innovative technology, unparalleled functionality and all the standard safety features a family aspires to have in a vehicle, at a surprising value.

For 2011, virtually every customer touch point was redesigned or re-engineered. From a suspension redesign that delivers an exhilarating driving performance, to a new powertrain with best-in-class horsepower and excellent fuel economy, to the new, exquisitely-crafted interior cabin with clever features a family appreciates, to the beautifully sleek new exterior design, thoughtful innovation was engineered in every aspect of the new Town & Country.

2011 Chrysler Town & Country

The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan delivers great American design, innovative technology, unparalleled functionality and all the standard safety features a family aspires to have in a vehicle, at a surprising value.

For 2011, virtually every customer touch point was redesigned or re-engineered. From a suspension redesign that delivers an exhilarating driving performance, to the new, exquisitely-crafted interior cabin with clever features a family appreciates, to the beautifully sleek new exterior design, thoughtful innovation was engineered in every aspect of the new Town & Country.

“I am very proud of the new Chrysler Town & Country; it’s the first vehicle to wear our new badge – our new wings. Which makes sense because the Town & Country is packed with ‘firsts’,” said Olivier Francois, President and CEO – Chrysler Brand. “We have improved the suspension from corner to corner, bested the power and fuel economy with the all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and, of course, upgraded the interior throughout.”

Chrysler Group invented the modern minivan in 1983 with the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. The first luxury minivan, the Chrysler Town & Country, debuted in 1989. Seventy-five minivan-first innovations and 13 million minivan sales later, the company still leads the way with the best, most innovative vehicle to move people and things.

Chrysler Group continues its industry-leading innovation in the minivan segment with minivan-first features for 2011 including a heated steering wheel, new Stow ‘n Place™ roof rack system that allows roof bows to be stored in the rails when not in use, a new, integrated, super center console for first- and second-row passengers, and new fuel economizer mode that helps the driver maximize fuel efficiency.

The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country offers more than 40 standard safety, security and technology features, providing customers the safety they expect to ensure peace of mind when traveling. Standard safety features include new front seat-mounted air bags, a new driver-side inflatable knee blocker, advanced multistage driver and front passenger air bags, side-curtain air bags for all three rows, electronic stability control, including Brake Assist and all-speed traction control, rain-sensitive windshield wipers, ParkSense® rear park assist system, ParkView® rear backup camera, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection.

The Chrysler Town & Country minivan has been refreshed for 2011 with a sleek, elegant exterior design. The new “face of Chrysler” starts with a new front fascia and grille inspired by the all-new 300 and shared across all the new Chrysler brand vehicles. The Town & Country also is the first vehicle to wear the new Chrysler brand winged badge. A new hood, and projector-style front fog lamps round out the exterior upgrades to the front, setting the expectation of elegance when a customer first spots the vehicle. Also new for 2011 is the rear liftgate with curved back glass, body-color rear spoiler, fascia and liftgate scuff pad with bright stripe, rear light bar and new LED taillamps. A chrome molding that runs across the entire length of the vehicle connects to the bodyside molding to pull the whole package together.

The new world-class interior of the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan is beautifully crafted with high-quality materials that are soft to the touch, and offers tech-savvy entertainment features and smart storage and seating options, including new, more comfortable Stow ‘n Go® seating with one-touch fold-down function. The Uconnect® suite of technologies offer touchscreen and voice command for convenient control of multiple media sources and outputs, navigation and handsfree phone. Available Uconnect Web transforms the Town & Country into a “hot spot” to deliver the internet directly to the minivan for instant access to web sites, email and more. Dual DVD entertainment system, SIRIUS satellite radio, SIRIUS Travel Link and SIRIUS Backseat TV™ make the Chrysler Town & Country the ultimate family vehicle.

A new, more luxurious Quad seating option is available for first- and second-row passengers in 2011. The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country continues to be the best choice for families that want a vehicle with style and value.

A sleek, new, one-piece instrument panel is crafted with premium materials and is more intuitive for the customer with improved ergonomics and larger, beautifully redesigned gauges. The new center stack console has been redesigned with the customer in mind, offering better ergonomics with premium materials and a pleasing appearance. An available new super center console provides clever functionality and storage for CDs, DVDs, notepad and wallet and integrated power outlets, as well as easy driver/passenger access with a pass-through storage space for larger items, like a purse. Trim rings in the console glow an ambient blue-green color, which allows passengers to find the items they are looking for at night. New, premium seating materials and new soft touch door trim panels offer passengers the comforts of home. There’s a new Chrysler brand steering wheel with integrated controls for audio, navigation and speed control; a new, improved, gated shifter that shifts smoothly into gear; a minivan-first heated steering wheel option; more than 40 standard safety and technology features; and the best storage and functionality in the segment providing customers value without compromise.

The new Chrysler Town & Country minivan suspension receives major upgrades for the 2011 model year resulting in drivers enjoying an agile, confident, exhilarating driving experience. Almost every system in the suspension was re-engineered, retuned or redesigned by Chrysler engineers, with an emphasis on improving the driver’s experience during routine handling and emergency maneuvers, making the ride more comfortable, improving braking and creating a quieter cabin. In addition to the redesigned suspension, the new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country sports new, premium tires, contributing to improved grip and ride comfort. The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country delivers families a fun driving experience, no matter if the drive is the neighborhood carpool, a family vacation or an exhilarating adventure on twisty roads.

For 2011, a new powertrain delivers best-in-class horsepower without sacrificing fuel efficiency. The new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine produces 283 horsepower, or 86 more horsepower than the outgoing 3.8-liter V-6 engine, and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The Pentastar V-6 is mated to the 62TE six-speed automatic transmission. Even with the added horsepower, the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is expected to maintain an excellent EPA Fuel economy rating. A new fuel economizer mode helps the driver maximize fuel efficiency and new premium, lower-rolling resistance tires and reductions in brake caliper and rear bearing drag make great fuel economy possible. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine simplifies vehicle complexity by replacing three V-6 engines that were available in the outgoing model lineup, the 3.3-liter V-6, the 3.8-liter V-6 and the 4.0-liter V-6.

With exquisite styling, a beautifully crafted interior, more than 40 standard safety and technology features, smart, cutting-edge entertainment features and clever seating and storage options, the new Chrysler Town & Country delivers on the Chrysler promise to provide every owner a vehicle that satisfies their dreams.

The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country will appeal to both generation X professionals with two or more children in their household and baby boomers who have no children in the household. Safety and value are two of the primary reasons for purchase, though this customer also needs the functionality and space to ease the challenges of family life.

The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is available in the United States in three different models: the Chrysler Town & Country Touring, Town & Country Touring L and Town & Country Limited. These models provide customers exquisite innovation, abundant standard safety features and the versatility they need, all at a surprising value.

The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is available in eight exterior colors: Blackberry Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl Coat, Stone White Clear Coat, White Gold Clear Coat, Sapphire Crystal Metallic Clear Coat (late availability) and Dark Charcoal (late availability).

The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivans arrive in dealer showrooms later this year.

The New 2011 Chrysler Town & Country is Engineered to Provide Drivers an Exceptional Driving Experience

* New 3.6-liter engine produces best-in-class 283 horsepower and excellent fuel economy
* Major suspension overhaul results in agile, confident, handling performance in all driving situations
* New Stow ‘n Place™ roof rack system allows roof bows to be stowed when not in use, resulting in better aerodynamics

November 15, 2010 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -

For 2011 the Chrysler Town & Country minivan is redesigned and re-engineered to deliver American design and performance with world-class precision, responsiveness, execution and efficiency.

Customers will appreciate the improved driving dynamics in the re-engineered 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. The new chassis architecture delivers an enjoyable driving experience as well as precision steering with maximum grip and control. Coupled with a new powertrain that offers best-in-class horsepower and exceptional fuel economy, the new Chrysler Town & Country delivers the substance in the driving experience to go along with the beauty of the exterior and interior design.

“The new 2011 Chrysler Town & Country was re-engineered from the ground up, resulting in the most versatile seating and storage options in the segment, a cabin that is quieter and more comfortable and more than 40 standard safety features,” said Ben Winter, Vehicle Line Executive – Chrysler Group LLC. “A redesigned suspension, a new powertrain and innovative features like a fuel economizer mode provide Town & Country customers with the functionality, safety, and fuel efficiency they expect in a minivan, as well as an exceptional driving experience.”

The Town & Country gets a new, simplified powertrain lineup for 2011. The new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces a best-in-class 283 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, yet delivers excellent fuel economy, powers the entire lineup. The Pentastar V-6 engine is mated to Chrysler Group LLC’s 62TE six-speed automatic transmission. Chrysler Group was the first manufacturer to offer a six-speed transmission in a minivan, debuting on the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. New for 2011 is a fuel economizer mode switch, a driver-selectable engine economy mode which assists drivers to maximize fuel efficiency while driving.

The 2011 Chrysler Town & Country debuts the latest innovation from the minivan leader, the Stow ‘n Place™ roof rack system. The system allows owners to stow the roof bows in the side rails when not use, resulting in less aerodynamic drag and wind buffeting while driving. The roof bows easily snap in place when needed.

Additional innovations for 2011 include an improved, refined serpentine shifter; a new, plush, second-row Quad seating option; upgrades to the segment-exclusive Stow ‘n Go® seating and storage system including new, larger, more comfortable second-row seats with a new one-touch fold-down function; a fuel economizer mode; and a minivan-first heated steering wheel.

Chrysler Group engineers reduced wind and road noise by adding numerous sound deadening and body treatments as well as new air induction tuning and exhaust tuning. These new treatments reward Chrysler Town & Country drivers and passengers with one of the quietest cabins in the segment.

Wind noise reduction treatments include:

* New B- and C-pillar seals applied to the sliding doors
* Additional damping materials added to the rear quarter panel outer sheet metal
* Increasing acoustic treatments in the lower, rear quarter D-pillar
* Improving the number of closeout plugs and increasing the thickness for body-in-white closeout plugs
* Adding new molded foam seals for the A-pillar mirror flag

Road noise reduction treatments include:

* Redesigning the front fender acoustic cavity filler with new, improved sound absorption material in optimal locations
* Increasing the volume and performance of PUR foam in key areas of the vehicle, better blocking noise paths into the passenger cabin
* Improving the body sealing between sheet metal panels which reduces noise transmission and air flow
• Improving sound absorption properties of the wheel house and rear wheel well via damping applications and acoustic barriers

Compared to the outgoing standard 3.8-liter V-6 engine, the new 2011 Town & Country offers a 34 percent increase in power and a considerable increase in fuel economy.

The 3.6-liter Pentastar engine simplifies vehicle complexity by replacing three V-6 engines that were available in the outgoing model lineup, the 3.3-liter V-6, the 3.8-liter V-6 and the 4.0-liter V-6.
The all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is manufactured at Chrysler Group LLC’s Trenton South Engine Plant in Trenton, Mich.

Putting the power to the ground
62TE Automatic Transmission
Chrysler Group was the first manufacturer to offer a six-speed transmission in a minivan, with the introduction of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country.

The 62TE six-speed automatic transmission was developed by building on the capability of Chrysler Group’s four-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed automatic transmission added two new primary gear ratios and a secondary ratio for optimized passing performance at highway speeds. The gear ratios of the six-speed transmission allow the engine to work more efficiently at lower speeds, providing the foundation for a spirited driving experience. The six-speed transmission also was designed to increase the peak launch torque capacity allowing greater acceleration at start.

The 62TE six-speed automatic transmission is manufactured at Chrysler Group LLC’s Kokomo Transmission Plant in Kokomo, Ind.

* Spring rates and the size of the front and rear stabilizer bar diameters were increased, reducing body roll and increasing steering sensitivity
* Steering precision and durability were improved by retuning the rear suspension link bushings

Engineers also addressed handling during emergency maneuvers. The result: better capability when cornering and more precise steering and stability

* Revising springs and stabilizer bars, geometry changes and bushing changes improved the steering precision and stability during emergency handling maneuvers
* New, premium tires provided increased grip and cornering capability, that resulted in improved emergency handling performance

The new Chrysler 200 sedan is engineered so drivers can hear what the backseat passengers are saying
The new Chrysler 200 features improvements in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), significantly reducing road noise, wind noise, tactile vibration, engine growl and powertrain noise. The NVH improvements result in unsurpassed speech intelligibility performance in the segment. To reach this level of quietness, engineers added 45 new sound deadening treatments that significantly reduce NVH, including:

* acoustic windshield
* laminated side glass, usually only found in higher priced vehicles
* optimally locating mastic and sound damping materials
* adding sound absorption material to strategic locations throughout the vehicle
* a new three-point engine mount system for the 2.4-liter World Gas Engine that delivers improved sound and isolation

Performance and fuel efficiency all in a stylish package
3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 Engine
200’s all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine delivers world-class refinement and efficiency. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is an all-new design, featuring dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), aluminum exhaust manifolds, polymer-coated piston skirts, forged connecting rods and a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration.

Refinement was a key objective for every component during the design phase of the engine and was achieved by using advanced computer-aided engineering techniques. Structurally, intake and exhaust areas of the engine are designed to deliver low levels of overall sound and achieve specific audible sound quality goals that exceed discerning customer requirements.

The 3.6-liter V-6 engine design features DOHC and high-flow intake and exhaust ports, that in combination with variable-valve timing via dual independent cam phasing, allow optimum volumetric and combustion efficiency over the full speed and load range. This results in an exceptional, flat torque curve along with high specific power. The engine’s torque exceeds 90 percent of its peak value from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm, providing customers outstanding drivability and responsiveness.

Designed to be environmentally responsible, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine features lead-free engine construction and an environmentally-friendly oil filter system with recyclable oil-filter element and no-spill removable feature. In addition, an integrated oil cooler is used to help protect the environment via incineration of the filter element. The use of long-life spark plugs and a high-energy coil-on-plug ignition system maximizes component life and helps reduce cost of ownership.

The all-new 3.6-liter V-6 engine delivers 283 horsepower (210 kW) at 6,350 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. (353 N•m) of torque at 4,400 rpm, providing Chrysler 200 drivers best-in-class horsepower.

The all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is manufactured at Chrysler Group LLC’s Trenton South Engine Plant in Trenton, Mich.

Putting the power to the ground, efficiently:
62TE Automatic Transmission
The 62TE six-speed automatic transmission was developed by building on the capability of Chrysler Group’s four-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed automatic transmission added two new primary gear ratios and a secondary ratio for optimized passing performance at highway speeds. The gear ratios of the six-speed transmission allow the engine to work more efficiently at lower speeds, providing the foundation for a spirited driving experience. The six-speed transmission also was designed to increase peak launch torque capacity, allowing greater acceleration at start.

The 62TE six-speed automatic transmission is manufactured at Chrysler Group LLC’s Kokomo Transmission Plant in Kokomo, Ind.

Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT) – Late Availability
Strong acceleration characteristics combined with more fuel efficiency on the highway are two of the main attributes of Chrysler Group’s newest transmission, the six-speed C636 Dual Dry Clutch Transmission (DDCT). The new, transverse-mounted gearbox will be available in the 2011 model year in Chrysler 200 models equipped with the 2.4-liter World Gas Engine (late availability).

The DDCT is the first powertrain application in a Chrysler Group vehicle as a result of the company’s partnership with Fiat. It is designed specifically for lighter vehicle applications and is a first for Chrysler Group passenger cars.

Electrohydraulically activated, the DDCT six-speed is expected to improve fuel efficiency.

Unlike traditional six-speed transmissions, the dual dry clutch transmission eliminates the torque converter and pumping losses associated with wet clutch transmissions.

The DDCT essentially is designed to operate much like a manual transmission, with two clutch discs driven independently by a common flywheel assembly. Odd numbered gears (1, 3 and 5) are located on one shaft assembly while even gears (2, 4 and 6) are on the other. Two gearboxes running in parallel, each with its own clutch, allows for the selection and engagement of subsequent gears, while the previous gear is still engaged. Gear changes are gradual rather than abrupt, ensuring a continuous delivery of engine torque and traction. Simply put, the gear is anticipated and preselected. As one clutch is opened, the other is closed, allowing shifting without torque interruption, resulting in quicker acceleration and near seamless shifting.

Additionally, with the lay-shaft arrangement of gears, there is flexibility to optimize gear selections for peak performance and fuel economy.

Smoother shifts, due to ideal gear spacing, are immediately noticeable to the driver. Ratios have been ideally spaced to help provide a smooth transition in-between gear changes. Using an ideal set of gears, the transition from first to sixth is smooth, with virtually none of the torque transfer generally associated with gear shifts in traditional automatic transmissions.

Precise shifting and a reduction of engine rpm’s are key benefits that result in lower emissions. The use of a six-speed automatic also allows the driver a broad range of shifting behaviors, from enthusiasts looking for sporty performance, to commuters looking for optimal fuel efficiency.
