2011 Grand Cherokee ordering started?

JRS200x wrote that ordering for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2010.5 Jeep Patriot and Compass opened today.

The Patriot and Compass have new packages, the Sport X package which adds tinted glass to the base model and the Latitude models which have a host of changes.

The 2011 Grand Cherokee is essentially as expected though there are numerous “late availability” items.

The Dark Charcoal Paint isn’t available until June 12, 2010.
The Natural Green Paint isn’t available until June 28, 2010.
Garmin Navigation becomes available on July 1, 2010.
Off-Road Adventure II Grp is available July 6, 2010.
Quadra-Life Air Suspension is available July 6, 2010.
Quadra-Drive II is available July 6, 2010.
White Gold Pain available Aug. 16, 2010.
Advance Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control available Nov. 15, 2010.

We now have a confirmed launch date for the Garmin navigation. The Quadra-Lift Air Suspension is showing as late availability, being pushed back to July.

Grand Cherokee features released; Pentastar V6 gets 10 hp boost

The final specifications on the 2011 Grand Cherokee have been released, and with them, notice that the Pentastar V6 (its base engine) is rated at 290 horsepower (10 hp more than previously thought) and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Hemi V8 is rated at 360 hp with 390 lb-ft of torque.

A new CommandView dual-pane panoramic sunroof will be optional, along with QuadraLift (starting in July) and Quadra-Drive II 4×4 with rear electronic limited slip differential on Hemi models (also starting in July). While rumors have a front electronic limited slip differential as well, this does not appear on Chrysler’s spec sheet and may be a later addition, if it shows up at all.

Gas mileage in the luxury SUV should be rated at roughly 18 mpg city, 26 highway with the Pentastar V6. The Hemi drops that down to 14 and 22 mpg. V6 mileage is 11% better than in the 2010 models using the 3.7 liter V6, and its highway mileage matches the outgoing Grand Cherokee diesel. Both use a five speed automatic transmission at this time; the V6 is standard on all models, with the Hemi available as an option.

The V6 Grand Cherokee has higher horsepower than Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and GMC Acadia, with more torque than Highlander or Pilot, and similar gas mileage to all three competitors (within 1 mpg). Towing maxes out at 5,000 lb with the V6, the same as Highlander, more than Pilot, and similar to Acadia; and hits 7,200 lb with the Hemi V8.
