December 6, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. -
Dodge redefines performance in the compact car segment with an all-new, state-of-the-art four-door sedan delivering class-leading aerodynamics – the 2013 Dodge Dart.
With Alfa Romeo DNA and Dodge’s passion for performance at its core, the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is a thoroughly modern vehicle that’s fuel-efficient, beautifully designed and crafted, agile and brings fun back to driving in the segment.
Similar to the Dodge Dart of the late 1960s, the 2013 Dart offers a special blend of style, performance and innovation. The Dodge brand leveraged its nearly 100-year history of passion for building high-quality, innovative vehicles that stand apart in performance and style, as well as from its partner Fiat’s global compact car expertise, to develop the all-new Dodge Dart.
ALFA ROMEO DNA The all-new Dart is the first Chrysler Group vehicle based upon a Fiat architecture – adapted from the award-winning Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The Giulietta is renowned for satisfying the most demanding customers in terms of road-holding, agility and safety, with exceptional driving dynamics. The Dart leverages all of these attributes within a lengthened and widened platform delivering segment-leading levels of interior roominess.
The all-new Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW) architecture underpinning the Dart is a state-of-the-art architecture with an industry-leading 68 percent of the body composed of high-strength steel, resulting in a very strong and rigid structure. Combined with responsive steering, four-wheel independent suspension, and available 18-inch wheels, the Dart brings fun back to driving in the compact car segment.
UNMISTAKABLE STYLE The all-new 2013 Dart marks the Dodge brand’s re-entry into the compact sedan segment, hitting the bulls-eye with a modern, unmistakable Dodge design that builds upon its performance heritage while evoking emotion, efficiency and fluidity of movement.
Eye-catching exterior proportions are set off from every angle by dynamic lines and curves, along with advanced technology, to deliver class-leading aerodynamic performance. The personality-packed front view is instantly recognizable as an all-new Dodge with its tailored split-crosshair grille, projector headlamps and fog lamps and accentuated fenders. Signature Dodge full-width LED ‘racetrack’ tail lamps and class-exclusive integrated dual exhaust – both inspired by Dodge Charger – accentuate the athletic and muscular stance of this dynamic and passionate new design.
THREE SOPHISTICATED, FUEL-EFFICIENT & POWERFUL ENGINES The 2013 Dodge Dart will be powered by three fuel-efficient, powerful, state-of-the-art four-cylinder engines that add to Dart’s fun-to-drive quotient.
Drivers can select from a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.0-liter engine, a 16-valve 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine, and a new Tigershark 16-valve 2.4-liter MultiAir four cylinder engine. These three engines, combined with three transmission choices, combine to redefine performance by providing the most diverse powertrain lineup in its class.
MultiAir technology delivers optimum combustion at any speed under all driving conditions by allowing direct and dynamic control of air intake and combustion. The result is up to a 15 percent increase in low engine rpm torque, a 7.5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and a 10 percent reduction in C02 emissions.
THE ALL-NEW DART – BUILT IN AMERICA The all-new Dodge Dart will be made in America at Chrysler Group’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, Ill. The Company is in the process of investing $600 million dollars to support the production of future products, including the 2013 Dodge Dart. The investment includes the construction of a 638,000-square-foot body shop, as well as the installation of new machinery, tooling and material handling equipment. Work on the expansion began in the summer of 2010 and will be completed this year.
The all-new Dodge Dart has been engineered with great levels of refinement, craftsmanship and engaging driving dynamics. Consumers can follow www.Dodge.com/Dart for additional photos and more information about the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart.

’60s flashback: Chrysler tossing Dodge Dart back in the mix to replace Caliber
Chrysler Group LLC is bringing back the Dodge Dart.
Chrysler said Tuesday it will introduce the 2013 Dodge Dart next month at the North American International Auto show in Detroit.
The compact Dart sedan will replace the poor-selling Dodge Caliber hatchback. It is the first Chrysler Group vehicle based on Fiat architecture; it is adapted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
The Dart will be built at Chrysler's Belvidere, Ill., assembly plant that currently makes the Caliber as well as the Jeep Compass and Patriot.
Many thought the new car, which will compete against the Chevrolet Cruze and Honda Civic, would be called the Hornet, but The Detroit News first reported that would not be the name.
Chrysler called the new Dart "a thoroughly modern vehicle that's fuel-efficient, beautifully designed and crafted, agile and brings fun back to driving in the segment." It builds on the heritage of the Dodge Dart of the late 1960s
Chrysler built the Dart in the United States from 1960 until 1976, and it continued the use of the Dart name in other markets until around 1980.
Chrysler initially sold nearly 250,000 Darts. It was a low-cost vehicle introduced to compete with other economical models after a recession including Volkswagen Beetle, Ford Falcon and American Motors Rambler.
In total, Chrysler sold more than 4 million Darts during its 16-year U.S. run. The company introduced taxi and police versions as well.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this, but when you look at the rear 3/4 view of the new 5 door Subaru Impreza, it eerily looks like a refreshened Caliber! And now, production is to end!
Fiat to increase stake in Chrysler by 5% if Dodge Dart gets 40 mpg rating
Chrysler yesterday dropped the first teaser images and details on the new 2013 Dodge Dart compact car that will be unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. CEO Sergio Marchionne now says that when the car’s fuel-efficiency is certified at 40 mpg or more by the end of the month, Fiat SPA could increase its stake in Chrysler by the final 5 percent, bringing its total ownership of the company to 58.5 percent.
The remainder of the company will be held by the UAW’s retiree health care trust.

Class-Leading Safety – Dodge Dart’s 10 standard airbags are unsurpassed in the compact car segment
December 13, 2011 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The Dodge brand is giving a sneak peek into the high-tech, precisely crafted and highly customizable interior of its all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. Scheduled to be introduced Jan. 9 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the new Dodge Dart’s interior sets a new standard for compact cars.
Setting a New Standard – Quality & Spaciousness Dodge designers focused on creating a modern blend of precision craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology, exciting bursts of color and hand-sculpted shapes when designing the Dart’s interior, which is made with materials and technology typically found in more expensive vehicle segments. Starting with modern Dodge DNA and through the use of innovative ambient interior lighting, high-quality soft-touch materials and high-tech features, the 2013 Dodge Dart is loaded with cool amenities and unexpected delights for both drivers and passengers.
The Dart’s “driver-centric” layout is designed to put all controls within easy reach of the driver. Customizable displays and comfort-tuned seats are packaged in an exceptionally spacious, pleasing interior. Packaged in the footprint of a compact car, the 2013 Dodge Dart features the interior spaciousness of a mid-sized sedan, and it boasts best-in-class hip and shoulder room.
Unmatched Customization Customization was key in the all-new Dodge Dart’s development, and with 12 exterior colors, 14 interior color and trim combinations, six wheel options, three engine options and three transmissions, each Dodge Dart can be personalized by every buyer to fit their individual style. And the combinations are multiplied exponentially, as Mopar will also offer hundreds of customization options and themed packages specifically developed for the Dart.
Class-leading Technology The high-tech centerpiece of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is the class-exclusive floating island bezel, which houses the segment-exclusive available 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) customizable gauge cluster display with light pipe surround that also houses the available class-exclusive UConnect Touch 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia center -- the largest touch-screen in its class.
Thoughtful storage options throughout fit today’s technology. The glove box easily conceals a stowed iPad; the center console features auxiliary jacks to plug in a wide variety of electronic devices, and thoughtful, inventive storage solutions, such as console map pockets, which are perfect for storing mobile phones, receipts, or pen and paper.
Lighting in all the right places provides drivers and passengers a warm, comfortable cockpit. Available “racetrack” lighting surrounds the floating island bezel. Ambient lighting for the door handles, map pockets, foot wells, glove box, storage bin and illuminated cup holders is both useful and provides a warm atmosphere inside the vehicle.
Unmatched Safety Safety was also at the forefront in the development of the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart. Built on a strong foundation, constructed with 68 percent high-strength steel, engineers added both active and passive safety features, including 10 standard airbags, which is unsurpassed in the segment. The 2013 Dodge Dart is also the only car in its class to offer blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection.
The all-new Dodge Dart has been engineered with great levels of refinement, craftsmanship and engaging driving dynamics. Consumers can follow www.Dodge.com/Dart for additional photos and more information about the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart.

Nearly every carmaker — both foreign and domestic — loves to send out glimpses of one of its important vehicles a few days or weeks before a major auto show. As the show gets closer, carmakers will overlap one another with teaser pictures.
Already, Dodge has released four pictures of the all-new Dodge Dart, even though no one in the public knows what this compact car really looks like. But hey, that speedometer is pretty sharp.
For Dodge, these pictures are generating potential customers.
More than 250,000 people have gone to the Dodge website to check out the photos, and through other media, the Dart has made more than a million online impressions with consumers, says Richard Cox, Dodge's head of marketing. That's a bull's-eye.
"These reward our fan base and are a great way to get our message out," Cox said.
The 2013 Dodge Dart was built on a strong foundation, with 68% high-strength steel; it has ten standard airbags, unsurpassed in the segment. The 2013 Dodge Dart is also the only car in its class to offer blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection.
The Dart will be built in Belvidere, Illinois, which is being expanded with a 550,000 square foot body shop; the cost for upgrading the plant, including adding new machinery and tooling, is $600 million. There will be no 2012 Dodge Dart (or Dodge Dart 2012 if you prefer) — production starts in 2012, but the car officially starts with the new Dodge Dart 2013.
2013 Dodge Dart Achieves 40 MPG Combined In Testing
January 5, 2012
While other automakers brag about building cars capable of achieving up to 40 miles per gallon in highway fuel economy, Chrysler is reporting that its new Dodge Dart sedan has achieved 40 mpg in combined fuel economy testing. As John Voelcker points out on Green Car Reports, 40 mpg combined is higher than any combined rating for a compact or subcompact gasoline vehicle to date.
To be clear, the car tested was a pre-production vehicle, and Chrysler didn’t specify if the test was the EPA’s combined cycle used to calculate window sticker fuel economy. It's possible that the test vehicle was equipped with the new ZF-built nine-speed transmission, which isn't expected to be available at launch of the Dart.
Still, achieving the 40 mpg milestone allowed Fiat to acquire an additional five percent stake in Chrysler, which now raises Fiat’s ownership to 58.5 percent (with the remaining 41.5 percent owned by the UAW VEBA). Hitting 40 mpg with a production vehicle built in the U.S. was the final hurdle set by the federal government for Fiat's takeover of Chrysler.
The 2013 Dodge Dart, which is considered by many to be the most important vehicle in Chrysler’s recent history, will be revealed at next week’s Detroit Auto Show. In Chrysler’s own words, the compact sedan blends Alfa Romeo DNA with Dodge’s passion for performance, yielding redefined performance in the compact segment.
