Ram Commercial, a division of the Ram Truck brand, launches a new marketing campaign today for its full line of work trucks and vans with particular focus on how the division’s Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans help small businesses and commercial customers maximize efficiency.

The multidimensional campaign, the most comprehensive since the Ram Commercial division was established four years ago, includes television, print, digital, video and social media components. A 30-second television spot, “Time,” debuts Sunday, Oct. 23, on the CBS television network’s early NFL game. The first in a series of "Ram on Demand" videos, capturing the “surprise and delight” of select small businesses putting Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans through the paces of their businesses for a full day, launched today on the Ram brand’s YouTube channel. Print ads for the full line of Ram Commercial work trucks also break this month in targeted publications, including Forbes, Professional Builder and Remodeling magazines.

“Ram Commercial vehicles are purpose-built to get the job done,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand, FCA – Global. “While running the day-to-day business and making every minute count are the primary focuses of most small businesses, we wanted to demonstrate how the capability, versatility, ride and handling, fuel efficiency and cargo capacity of our Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans can help drive a company’s efficiency in a very smart way.”

“In this campaign, Ram Commercial has created visually compelling executions that stand out from the ‘status quo’ in what traditionally is a functional communication category,” said Olivier Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, FCA – Global. “The strategy of showcasing the stories of real life customers using our vehicles and talking about how our Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans work for them is a message that is sure to resonate with small-business owners.”

"Time" TV spot
The 30-second “Time” commercial demonstrates how Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans are extremely versatile for small businesses like seafood delivery, mobile car wash detailer, heating and cooling and home restoration companies. Shot in a large soundstage with a turnstile-type set, the camera rotates from scenario to scenario eventually revealing that each quadrant is part of a large clock, showcasing that for any usage and any time of the day, Ram work vans are purpose-built to get the job done efficiently.

The final title card also highlights Ram ProMaster City’s latest designation, “America’s Most Efficient Work Van,” based on best-in-class fuel economy, cargo capacity and payload capability.

"Ram on Demand" Test Drives
“Ram On Demand” puts a new twist on the idea of a traditional test drive. Ram Commercial delivered Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans to small-business owners in Los Angeles and New York City, specifically to owners who are operating old work vehicles and who have never seriously considered the idea of a modern work van. The vans were customized with upfits based on the business’ usages and then provided for the day to put through the test of normal business operations and routines. The resulting video content captures the real “surprise and delight” reactions while engaging with the vans.

“Ram on Demand” kicks off with a 60-second overview video followed by two videos each of businesses experiencing the Ram ProMaster and Ram ProMaster City. Veestro, a Los Angeles-based food delivery company, and Andrew’s Honey, a New York City beekeeper and honey retailer, are featured in the first two “Ram on Demand” videos. Additional videos will join the first two on YouTube and the Ram Commercial website, as well as the brand’s Facebook and LinkedIn sites.

Customer Profile Videos
Different than the “Ram on Demand” full-day test drives, Ram Commercial’s documentary-style customer profile videos showcase the daily use of Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City vans by various businesses that currently own Ram vans and how the versatility, ride and handling, fuel efficiency and cargo capacity help drive each company’s efficiency. Environmental Painting Alternatives of Orlando, Florida, a commercial and residential painting company with Ram ProMaster and Ram ProMaster City vans, is featured in one video currently on the Ram Commercial YouTube channel and the Toledo, Ohio, Ecoshine Mobile Auto Detailing company that exclusively uses a ProMaster van is featured in another. Additional customer profile videos will be added to the brand’s website and YouTube channel.

Los Angeles — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is gradually shifting its Ram Truck brand away from the signature crosshair grille that has adorned its pickups for 35 years.

Executives with the Italian-American automaker won’t commit that the grille, which Ram pickups and cargo vans have continued to use since the company separated the brand from Dodge in 2009, will completely disappear but the writing is on the wall, or grille, in this case.


“I love what the company has done by differentiating each brand — from the marketing to the materials — and it’s inspired us as designers to make sure we do that with cars themselves,” Fiat Chrysler head of global design Ralph Gilles told The Detroit News on the sidelines of the Los Angeles Auto Show. “It takes time. Establishing a brand takes five years, so we’re kind of at that point.”

Since the 2015 Detroit auto show, the company has introduced light-duty and heavy-duty pickups (Rebel, Limited, Power Wagon and Laramie Longhorn models) as well as two concepts (Ram Rebel TRX and Ram Promaster van) with non-crosshair grilles that prominently feature “RAM.” The company’s advertisements also have shifted toward the new grilles rather than those with the crosshair.


“I’m watching this space very carefully,” Gilles said. “It’s been an experiment, and it’s working. People have responded to it. We like it. But it’s something we’re consciously doing gradually.”

Pickup buyers are some of the most loyal customers in the automotive industry and traditionally don’t like drastic changes in a vehicle’s design.

Since the first generation of Dodge Ram trucks debuted in 1981, the crosshair grille has been on nearly all of its vehicles. For Dodge pickups, a crosshair grille first appeared in the 1940s, followed by a re-emergence around 1970.

Mike Manley, head of Ram globally, said it’s important to differentiate the brand away from Dodge, which the company has positioned as a mainstream performance brand since separating the pickups into Ram.

Manley said one option may be to keep them grille on select models, while moving the overall design language of the brand to focus on Ram.

“You’re already seeing progressive moves in terms of the grille,” Manley told The News during a separate interview. “I would never say that something would ever completely move away from things because there’s always opportunity, I think, when you’ve established two different styles of grilles to use them.”

Gilles hinted that designers may take advantage of the next-generation Ram pickup to really differentiate the brand from Dodge.

“It’s a natural thing to slowly do it. We don’t want to tear it off like a Band-Aid, you know, we want to have it happen organically,” he said. “When we have a chance to do all-new product, we’re going to take advantage of that.”

Ram’s largest problem since separating from Dodge has arguably not had anything to do with its products but the brand’s reputation. Customers as well as factory workers can be overheard saying “Dodge Ram pickup.”

“This has been a challenge for Fiat Chrysler to make that shift from ‘Dodge Ram’ to just ‘Ram,’ ” said Autotrader.com senior analyst Michelle Krebs. “Changing the grille is another step in that direction in separating the brand, but it’s going to continue to be a long journey.”

Ram, with help of a pickup-friendly marketplace, has thrived after leaving Dodge, with ambitions of now moving the brand into new markets under Manley, who started leading the truck brand in October 2015.

To help that global push, Manley said a midsize pickup for the brand remains an option. He called the small-pickup segment a “relatively robust” market globally.

“I think Ram needs a mid-size pickup, but whether it’s in this generation or the next-generation, that’s what we’re looking at now,” he said, adding the pickup would not be introduced for at least two years.

Manley, also global head of the Jeep brand, said Jeep continues with its plans to introduce a Jeep pickup based off the next-generation Wrangler by mid-2018.

Fiat Chrysler Accidentally Put Hemi Badges on a Bunch of V-6 Ram Pickup Trucks

As many an owner can tell you, mis-badging vehicles is a fantastic way to get hate thrown your way from knowledgeable car snobs. But in this case, it wasn't owners improperly rebadging their cars—but rather Fiat Chrysler, which accidentally slapped the wrong badges some of its Ram 1500 pickups right on the assembly line.

FCA technical service bulletin (TSB) 23-053-16 was released last month as an order for dealer technicians to pry HEMI badges off certain 2017 Ram 1500 trucks that were built with a 3.6-liter V-6 instead of the larger 5.7-liter V-8—the engine the HEMI badge is meant for, Automotive News reports.

"If the vehicle has Hemi emblems installed and the vehicle does not have a Hemi engine, the emblem will need to be removed," said the TSB, AN says.

It's somewhat comical that FCA actually took to releasing an official TSB to try and make this problem go away. Generally, the system is used by automakers to give their dealership service departments a heads-up when they get word of a technical issue they believe exists on many of their cars, and to give them in-depth instructions on how to fix the issue.

If for whatever reason you're really into having a badge that doesn't belong on your truck, you can make your way over to eBay for all your fakery necessities. But you really shouldn't. It's really, really dumb.

Ram Truck is bringing several interactive fan experiences to Las Vegas Dec. 1-10 for WNFR, in support of the Ram Rodeo Series. Rodeo and truck fans can take part in numerous activities around the Las Vegas strip, including performances by country music artist Natalie Stoval and the Drive every night, daily autograph signings by various country music artists, nightly WNFR viewing parties, truck displays and a new interactive Ram virtual reality 360 experience.

World championship titles will be awarded at the WNFR to the individuals who earn the most money in his or her event throughout the year, including barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, tie down roping, bull riding, steer wrestling, bareback riding and team roping.

Saturday, Dec. 9, is Ram Truck Night at WNFR. On Sunday, Dec. 10, after the final round of competitions, the brand will present the Ram Top Gun award to the one contestant who wins the most money in a single category during the 10 days of WNFR. The 30-second “Long Live Ram” ad features a variety of stories that showcase the strength, bravery and resolve of communities that depend on our trucks. In “Skate,” Ram trucks are hard at work clearing the way for a whole town to come together to go ice skating on a lake. “Forever Young” perfectly underscores the message: long live those values that people hold dear and long live Ram that enables them to do so.

The spots end with “America’s Longest-lasting Pickups” and brand tagline “Guts.Glory.Ram.”




The “Long Live” Ram brand campaign includes online advertising, as well as Ram brand website and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media page support. Future lifestyle marketing extensions are also being planned.
