Democratization of technology: segment-first eight-speed automatic transmission
Once available only on premium import vehicles costing twice as much, the 2012 Chrysler 300 is the first domestic luxury sedan to feature an eight-speed automatic transmission. This new segment-exclusive ZF 8HP45 eight-speed automatic transmission expands the world-class power and fuel-efficiency of the 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series and delivers class-leading fuel efficiency with respect to:

Best-in-class highway fuel economy (31 highway mpg)
Best-in-class V-6 AWD fuel economy (18 city and 27 highway mpg)
Best-in-class combined fuel economy (23 with RWD, 21 with AWD)
Unsurpassed city fuel economy (19 city mpg RWD, 18 mpg AWD)
Overall unsurpassed fuel economy in its class (19 city and 31 highway mpg with RWD)

The addition of three more gear ratios in the proven ZF eight-speed automatic transmission design help to reduce the gaps normally associated with upshifting and downshifting. Combined with the award-winning 292 horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, passengers will experience world-class levels of refinement due to small, evenly spaced ratios that provide quicker acceleration and smoother shifts.

Delivering up to a 17 percent fuel economy improvement compared with the previous generation six-cylinder Chrysler 300 AWD models, the new 2012 Chrysler 300 Luxury Series AWD combines the new eight-speed automatic transmission, fuel-efficient 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine and the segment’s most advanced AWD system for maximum all-weather traction and efficiency.

Chrysler 300’s AWD system (both V-6 and V-8 engines) features a segment-exclusive active transfer case and front-axle-disconnect system to improve real-world fuel economy. No other major automotive manufacturer offers the combination of these two independent technologies. Chrysler 300’s innovative AWD system seamlessly transitions between RWD and AWD with no driver intervention. When AWD is not required, the system automatically disconnects the front axle to maximize fuel economy while still providing the outstanding fun-to-drive performance and handling inherent in RWD sedans.

2012 Chrysler 300 Earns NHTSA's Highest Safety Rating

Feb 02, 2012

The 2012 Chrysler 300 has earned a five-star overall crash test rating, which is the highest possible, from the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In composite tests, NHSTA scores vehicles for front and side crash safety, and the 2012 Chrysler 300 also earns five out of five stars in both of these areas. The Chrysler 300 receives a lower score of four stars for rollover risk, though.

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is one of few vehicles to get the five-star overall rating. The only other affordable large car to receive the five-star overall rating from NHTSA is the 2012 Buick LaCrosse.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has also rated the 2012 Chrysler 300 highly, and names it a Top Safety Pick for receiving the highest score of “Good” in front, side and rear crash tests and roof strength tests.

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is on sale now, and starts at $28,170.

2012 Chrysler 300 and 2012 Dodge Charger Achieve 5-Star Safety Rating from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Both 2012 Chrysler Group models achieve top 5-star rating in front driver and overall vehicle scores

4-star rating achieved in rollover tests

NHTSA NCAP rating for both models follows “Top Safety Pick” by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earlier this year

Chrysler 300 SafetyTec and Dodge Charger Driver Confidence Group package enables the driver with a 360° perspective with available active safety features, including SmartBeam Headlamps, Adaptive Forward Lighting on Chrysler 300, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with adaptive-cruise control (ACC), Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Path (RCP) accident-avoidance systems

February 9, 2012 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The 2012 Chrysler 300 and 2012 Dodge Charger have achieved 5-star safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 5-star rating is the highest rating for safety by the Administration and measures vehicle safety performance in three categories, including front and side crashes as well as for rollover.

“We’re very pleased that both the 2012 Chrysler 300 and 2012 Dodge Charger have achieved the highest overall rating,” said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President-Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC. “The results of these tests reflect crashworthiness and performance in different scenarios.”

Both Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger achieved an overall 5-star vehicle safety score. The rating is a combination of frontal, side pole and barrier performance with the static stability factor accounting for the rollover rating.

Both Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger also achieved high marks in rollover testing with a 4-star rating.

“These vehicles are comprehensively equipped with advanced safety features,” added Kunselman. “Both vehicles are robustly designed with a rigid structure to protect occupants and have numerous advanced safety features including, available Adaptive Cruise Control which NHSTA notes as a technology proven to reduce crashes.”

The advanced Adaptive Cruise Control maintains a set distance between vehicles when the cruise control is engaged. Other safety and security features on the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger include standard electronic stability control and available blind-spot monitoring.

Earlier this year, the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger were named a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Both the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger are equipped with more than 65 safety and security features, including segment-exclusive Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support features to support overall vehicle handling and performance under all weather and pavement conditions.

Safety ratings are just part of the story with both the 2012 Chrysler 300 and 2012 Dodge Charger.

Both vehicles also are equipped with a new 8speed automatic transmission, a first by a domestic automaker. Combined with the award-winning 292 horsepower Pentastar V-6 engine, both vehicles achieve a Best-in-Class EPA-rated 31 miles-per-gallon on the highway. The eight-speed transmission also is available for all-wheel-drive models.

Both Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger also include state-of-the-art Uconnect® navigation and entertainment systems. The Garmin navigation system found in both vehicles recently was recognized by J.D. Power as the top consumer choice for in-vehicle navigation, Additionally, Dodge Charger recently received the Breakthrough Technology Award for 2012 from Edmunds.com for the Uconnect driver information system. The award recognizes a vehicle that sets the standard for intuitive, practical and affordable automotive technology.
