Chrysler transmissions to be a mixed bag

According to Allpar sources, while Chrysler works on building eight-speed automatics, Fiat front-drive dual-clutch automatics, and its own six-speed transverse-engine automatic, it also seems to be planning to continue use of Mercedes WA580 five-speed automatics for rear wheel and all wheel drive applications. The upcoming Pentastar engine will, it appears, be used with both the Mercedes five-speed and the Chrysler six-speed automatic; the latter will also be coupled to a two-liter Fiat diesel. Other plans, including the destination for the eight-speed rear-drive transmission, are still uncertain.
