Chrysler earns perfect score on equality index

According to a new report released today by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), Chrysler Group LLC was one of 305 leading corporations to score a perfect 100 percent on HRC’s 2010 Corporate Equality Index. The Corporate Equality Index rates corporations annually based on their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace policies and benefits. This is the fourth time the Company has achieved a perfect score on this important diversity index.
The HRC is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve LGBT equality.
“Maintaining a diverse workforce, reflective of our diverse marketplace, is an important part of what we must do to compete and grow our Company,” said Lisa J. Wicker, Director – Talent Management, Global Diversity & Leadership Development, Chrysler Group LLC. “Chrysler Group is committed that every employee, no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, sexual preference, age, religious affiliation or nationality, feels that they can contribute to their fullest. Chrysler Group will reach the full measure of our potential only as one, united diverse team.”
According to the report, federal law does not protect employees from discrimination based on real or perceived gender identity or sexual orientation, although many cities, counties and states have such protections. Similarly, employer-based health insurance benefits typically don’t cover LGBT workers and their families. The report notes that employees are protected from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression because employers like Chrysler Group maintain strong policies on diversity and inclusion, training and benefits.
“The Corporate Equality Index 2010 shows that, even in the most challenging economy, leading employers are forging ahead of federal and state law to recruit and retain a diverse workforce — regardless of employees’ sexual orientation and gender identity or expression,” said Human Rights Campaign Foundation President Joe Solmonese. “These 305 businesses, and all employers actively working to improve their rating, set an example for all U.S. employers, including the federal government.”
