Chrysler Financial will close Overland Park center, cut 240 jobs


Chrysler Financial will close an Overland Park customer service center on Aug. 31 and eliminate about 240 jobs.

The reduction is part of Chrysler Financial’s cut of about 350 jobs, or 9 percent of its roughly 3,900-employee work force, spokeswoman Amber Gowen said Tuesday. The company will transfer the Overland Park work to two centers in Philadelphia and Dallas, she said.

The company is making the cuts because of decreasing vehicle sales, tight capital markets and the decision by Chrysler Group LLC to transition its retail business financing to GMAC Financial Services, Gowen said.

Chrysler Financial now is a stand-alone entity, separate from Chrysler Group, she said, and the job cuts are part of its restructuring. The company also is consolidating some of its retail credit functions at its headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Chrysler Financial to reduce staff by about 350

SAN FRANCISCO Chrysler Financial said Tuesday it is restructuring its business operations which will result in reducing its staff by about 350, or 9% of its workforce. Staff reductions will take place at Chrysler Financial's eight business centers and at its corporate headquarters in Farmington Hills, Mich. It will also consolidate all U.S. retail credit acquisition activities into its Great Lakes business center in Auburn Hills, Mich. "While these were difficult decisions to make, they are necessary in light of our declining portfolio," said Chairman and Chief Executive Tom Gilman.
