Chrysler inventories fall
Chrysler inventories fall somewhat
December 14th, 2009
Inventories at Chrysler moved from 68 to 64 days’ supply, not far above the total industry’s 62-day supply on December 1, according to figures reported by Automotive News. As usual, the smallest inventories were held by import automakers, led by Subaru and BMW. The largest inventory (in days) was held by Mitsubishi and Suzuki, whose sales have fallen in recent years. (The absolute largest inventory was held by GM, with 435,000 vehicles – 66 days, and then by Ford, with 395,000 – 74 days).
Within Chrysler, the various divisions had similar levels, with Jeep at the highest level (73 days) largely due to the Compass, Wrangler, and Patriot (218, 79, and 95 days). Chrysler had 193 days’ worth of PT Cruisers and 95 days’ of 300s; the high 300 supply was in contrast to Charger, with 50 days’ worth. Commander and Grand Cherokee were both below 50 days’ supply, with under 9,000 of the vehicles to be sold before the 2011s show up. Ram inventories swelled to 95 days.
Every division saw an inventory reduction, but mainly this was in trucks, as inventory of cars went from 55 to 58 days and trucks went from 72 to 66. (”Trucks” includes minivans and Jeeps, but not, in these lists, PT Cruisers.)
