DUBIA - U.S. car maker Chrysler is to
recall around 600 Jeep 4x4s in the UAE due to a potential gearbox defect, Gulf News reported on Wednesday.
The recall covers the 2008 automatic transmission model Jeep Wrangler, the UAE daily said, adding that there was a danger of fluid in the gearbox overheating.
Chrysler has initiated a free service check campaign for all 2008 automatic transmission model Jeep Wranglers, the newspaper said.
"Although a very limited number of 2008 Jeep Wranglers (automatic transmission) may be affected, Chrysler International, to ensure the safety of its customers, will inspect all 2008 Jeep Wranglers (automatic transmission) and carry out any necessary rectification work completely free of charge," the car maker was quoted as saying in a statement.
The recall comes just two weeks after the UAE ordered Toyota to recall more than 3,000 vehicles as a precaution amid one of the biggest global recalls in history to fix faulty accelerators.
The Toyota recall covers the 2005-2010 year Avalon sedans and 2009-2010 Sequoia sport utility vehicles, the only two models sold in the UAE of the eight models recalled worldwide.
