Jeep Wranglers being recalled
Jeep Wranglers being recalled
June 7th, 2010
As Chrysler has been wrapping up legacy issues, it has found an issue with the popular 2007 and newer Jeep Wrangler models, with fender liners that can rub against brake tubes, possibly causing a leak of brake fluid. The affected models started production on May 15, 2006.
Chrysler dealers will change the inner fender liners, add new retaining fasteners, and check the brake tubes for wear, replacing any that have a worn corrosion-protection coating.
The issue affects both left and right hand drive Jeeps, from model years 2007 through 2010.
The investigation appears to have been started within Chrysler, in February 2010, when engineers were told about a brake fluid leak on a 2008 Wrangler. Field data revealed just six reports of similar leaks, five on the right side and one on the left. Employees’ own Wranglers were examined, and the team found that some of the fasteners had dropped off (but none had a “compromised hydraulic circuit.”
On April 23, 2010, the company changed Wrangler production, trimming the right front fender liner to provide additional clearance, pending revisions to the fender liner tooling and new fasteners.
There do not appear to have been any accidents or injuries, and Chrysler will reimburse owners who paid for repairs.
