General opinions on the NITRO

Hi guys

We are looking seriously at a NITRO, 4x2 SE model. This fits our budget.

I just want to get some general impressions from those of you who own the vehicle - any silly problems or service issues? Any bugs in the vehicles?

Would like to hear opinions, good and bad. - once the money is spent, well, its gone. Dont want to make a 26K mistake

Thanks

Ian R.

Re: General opinions on the NITRO

When I got my Nitro the dealer filled it up and I used the mileage from the title to calculate my first fillup yesterday 11-19-2006 and it came out to 16.6. I don't know what to make out of it yet but not very impressive. I will just have to wait and see. I have a 4x2 SLT and I like it a whole lot except for the before mentioned. The window sticker said 18 24. You might check out others. The initial cost was real good. $23500, not 28 35 etc.

Re: General opinions on the NITRO

Overall I think it is a great vehicle!

We bought the SLT 800 miles ago and haven't had any issues to this point. Has decent power, turns on a dime, brakes very well. Interior is nicely done although I'm used to a full size truck and the cab area seems small at 5'10" but again, I'm sure that is because I'm used to my extended cab full size. lol

The SIRUS radio is great as is the Infinity sound package.

The mileage I don't find to be a big issue. I've gotten 16.7 mpg around town and we'll be taking the first road trip this week so we'll see.

The one negative I have found is the sunroof is very noisey in the open position. Can't figure out how they screwed that up, sunroofs are nothing new! lol But that wouldn't stop me from buying another one.

Like the heck out of mine, only thing I would add is an assist handle on the pillar or overhead in the front seats but that is minor . Don't have a sunroof so can't comment & at 5' 10" I just cock my head a little getting in from then on i'm fine.

Re: General opinions on the NITRO

Well as far as mileage goes, you cant tell much for at least 5000 miles (8000 kms) or more, until the engine has really broken in well.

No bull, I get 25MPG with my 73 Gran torino, 351 windsor, and AC going, on the interstates at 70 mph. That engine has about 85000 miles on it LOL, and is well broken in. So I wouldnt judge the mileage yet.

Besides, if its colder where you are, all cars suck more gas when its colder out.

I was more concerned about electrical/electronic issues, service issues, fit and finish, rattles etc.

I have a deal going with a dealer in Ontario, and part of it includes a gift - the full service manuals or CD - which ever.

Cheers
Ian

Re: General opinions on the NITRO

I love mine. Had it about a couple weeks. Light Khaki Metallic 4X2 SXT base model. I haven't really checked the mileage but every vehical I've ever had averaged in about 2 or 3 miles per gallon more than the city rating after it was broken in. I've never had a vehical do big freeway numbers (but then I guess I don't do a lot of freeway driving...lol!) That would be about 20-21 mpg average on a new Nitro and that's great for me! Anything that big that looks that cool I'll be very happy with 20!!! Great overall vehical so far. I really see the German influence creeping into the line and I've had a Benz before.

I am not overly concerned with the mileage. Otherwise, the vehicle is built very solid and we haven't had any issues through 800 miles. Heading out on the first road trip (1200 miles roundtrip) this morning and I'm sure we're going to enjoy the ride comfortably.

Good luck on closing your deal and getting the manuals. I tried all kinds of angles with my dealer and I was only able to work about a $2.5K discount with no accessories! lol

Re: General opinions on the NITRO

3 whole days old now and my first opinion of the "wife's" new ride is..........It a PITA to wash and dry. There are tons of little nooks that like to hold the water and do the dribbles later. But at least I finally got to drive it...
Wifey is just a tad bit possessive of her new toy. I guess, for the first month or so, I'll just have to get used to driving it to the car wash and to get her fuel.
