Chrysler sues Johnson Controls for leaving lead out of batteries
Associated Press

DETROIT -- Chrysler LLC is suing its battery supplier for millions of dollars. The issue? Lead.

Chrysler says Johnson Controls Inc. has been charging it for lead that doesn't end up in the batteries.

The Auburn Hills-based car company says it became suspicious last spring and hired an expert to examine the batteries. Chrysler says it has paid more than $15 million for lead that wasn't in the finished product -- and the expense is growing.

Johnson Controls says the contract with Chrysler never called for the lead weight to determine payments.

The Wisconsin-based supplier says the lead used to make a battery always is greater than what actually is inside.

The lawsuit was filed in Oakland County Circuit Court and recently was moved to federal court in Detroit.
