Dispatchers called law enforcement and emergcncy personnel about 7:30 a.m. regarding a one-vehicle accident at the corner of W. James and W. Kossuth streets.

According to Department of Public Safety Trooper Ron Brown, shortly before 7 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16 a 15-year-old juvenile male used keys from another vehicle to this 2011 Dodge Nitro and drove away. He was driving north on S. Kossuth when he lost control of the vehicle and it tipped on its side. Residents heard the wreck and noticed a young man fleeing the scene. After a short foot chase the young man surrendered to Brown two blocks from the accident.

The 15-year-old was awaiting transfer to the Texas Youth Commission in Sinton late Monday morning.

I don't get how keys to another vehicle would have worked?

By fluke the key would have been cut the same, but if the key isn't programmed for the car, it won't run.
