Honda Motor Co., Japan’s second-largest automaker, said new gasoline-electric models planned for its Acura line are intended to improve the image of the U.S. premium brand and increase fuel economy, Bloomberg reported.
The automaker will offer a “wide range” of hybrid Acura cars, John Mendel, Honda’s U.S. executive vice president, said in a speech at the Automotive News World Congress in Detroit, the news service said. He didn’t say when those vehicles will go on sale, Bloomberg said.
Honda previously planned to offer diesel engines to increase the fuel efficiency of Acura models, the report said. That effort was canceled because of a surge in prices of the fuel and the high cost of the company’s diesel system, Mendel said in the story. (Bloomberg)
