Marking 30 years of showcasing the world’s finest vintage motor cars each August on the grounds of the historic Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Mich., the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance returns this weekend to pay homage to the Motor City by featuring “The Best of Detroit.”
On Saturday, Ralph Gilles, Senior Vice President—Product Design, will be a featured speaker at the Automotive Design Forum starting at 9:30 a.m. in the ballroom of Meadow Brook Hall.
More than 220 vintage cars and motorcycles take center stage on Sunday as the main attraction of the three-day event. Among the classics will be a one-of-a-kind 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300, a rare 1953 Fiat 8V Ghia Supersonic, more than 80 vehicles representing the best of North American manufacturers and many other vintage vehicles.
The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR that holds the current production car lap record at Germany’s infamous 12.9 mile Nürburgring Nordschleife road course will be shown in the Contemporary Supercar display.
“Detroit’s ‘Big 3’ automakers have been perennial supporters of the Meadow Brook Concours,” said Matthew de Larcinese, Executive Director—Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance. “As a gesture of gratitude for their long-standing support, the Concours is pleased to commemorate its 30th anniversary with a celebration of Detroit’s automotive heritage featuring the engineering and design excellence of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler.”
In addition to “The Best of Detroit,” the following categories of vehicles will be featured on Sunday:
• Fins and Chrome: The Convertibles of 1959
• Packard V-12
• Swoopy Coupes
• Rolls Royce Phantom
• 100th Anniversary of Morgan and a Celebration of British Sports Cars
• Motorcycles—The British Twins
This year’s Concours also will include a display of classic automobiles on loan from the Gilmore Car Museum located in Hickory Corners, Mich.
“The Concours enjoyed record attendance in 2008 and, with a strong local theme, we expect even more interest this year,” de Larcinese added.
