CarMax to hire 600 in anticipation of spring sales

Used-car retailer CarMax Inc. said today it will hire approximately 600 new employees in anticipation of a sales pick up this spring and summer, the Automotive News reported.
Most of the positions are in sales with others in service operations, purchasing and the company’s business offices, the trade paper said. The full- and part-time positions are in CarMax stores around the country.
CarMax had 13,000 employees at the end of February 2009, down from a high of about 16,400 in May 2008, representing a 21 percent decrease, the paper said. The company trimmed its staff, mostly though attrition, in the face of weak consumer demand and a sharp decline in showroom traffic, the story said. (Automotive News)
