Chevy Volt to Go On Sale in California Next Year
Posted: Dec. 03, 2009
We’ve been hearing about GM’s Chevy Volt for what seems like eons (okay, years)…but now there’s finally a light at the end of the hybrid-electric tunnel. General Motors has announced that the ultra efficient Volt will go on sale in late 2010.
The only catch? You’ll have to go to California to buy it -- at least for a little while.
Of course General Motors will eventually introduce the hybrid to other states, but they’ve given no word on when that might be. “Not only with the Volt be available in the nation's largest car market before any other, but The General is also partnering with a number of local electric companies to accompany the rollout,” explains Autoblog.
When it hits the market, the Volt will be one of the most unique and possibly the most efficient mass-production cars. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain can travel for 40 miles on electric power alone – which means drivers theoretically won’t need to purchase nearly as much gasoline as they would with a traditional non-electric hybrid.
Pricing for the Volt has not been officially confirmed, though a previous acknowledgement put it at around $40,000 according to CNET.
