Chrysler to dump three slow-sellers

"It's either a yes or a no, but not a slow maybe," he said during a question-and-answer session at the American Magazine Conference in Boca Raton, Fla.

The board of Chrysler LLC is expected to decide today to kill at least three slow-selling models as part of a sweeping strategic realignment of the newly private automaker.

People close to Chrysler said the board, in its initial meeting under new Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli, likely will approve plans to discontinue the Chrysler Pacifica crossover, the Dodge Magnum wagon and the PT Cruiser hatchback.

Looks like the Crossfire may be gone too. Make it now 4 models.

The automaker is also expected to announce later this week that it will shed at least four models from its lineup over the 2008 model year, including the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the Crossfire, the Pacifica and the Dodge Magnum. The aging Chrysler models share no mechanical underpinnings with other Chrysler vehicles, and would need expensive upgrades to become competitive.

It would make sense to get rid of the Crossfire, as Mercedes makes it.

Actually the Dodge Magnum, Charger and Chrysler 300 share the same platform and a LOT of underpinnings. The Magnum is being killed off because of sales. There was an official announcement of that.

Now I read: "The plan also includes elimination of some shifts at Chrysler plants. The Toledo North Assembly Plant, which builds the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro, is said to be one of the facilities likely to lose a shift."

Still better than no Nitros. If it takes up to 16 weeks to order one now to receive what would it take if they drop one shift?

Dodge Nitro 12-16 • 4x4 models have a 12-14 week lead time
• 4x2 models have a 14-16 week lead time
• (ALF) Sun and Wheel Group has a Job #1 of 11/1/07
