Chrysler launches 2009 Dodge Ram production in Fenton
Chrysler LLC launched manufacturing Friday of its new 2009 Dodge Ram, which will built in plants in Fenton, Mo., and Warren, Mich.
Production of Ram standard cab and crew cab pickups occurs at Chrysler's North Assembly Plant in Fenton, which employs approximately 1,085 people. At St. Louis North, the body shop was completely rebuilt, with the addition of 210 new robots and more than a mile of new conveyor, Chrysler said.
“The ability to produce the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram at two U.S. assembly locations allows Chrysler the flexibility of shifting production volumes at either location in order to accommodate market demand,” the car maker said in a statement.
High gas prices have hurt Chrysler’s demand for trucks as drivers flock to more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Chrysler also plans to shut down operations at its minivan plant in Fenton.
