PickupTrucks.com Names Decade's Most Significant Trucks
Dec. 29, 2009
They’re calling in the “Decade of the Pickup Truck.” PickupTrucks.com explains, “Sales of full-size pickups hit 2.56 million units in 2004, and Ford’s F-Series trucks remain the nation’s best-selling vehicles, 33 years in a row.” That’s why the online publication, along with AutoPacific, has compiled a list of the 10 most significant trucks of the past decade.
The honorees were all on the market between Jan. 1, 2000 and Dec. 31, 2009. “These trucks introduced new innovations, pushed the segment into new territory and made the competition sweat while helping their driver’s sweat less,” adds PickupTrucks.com. “There’s no rank order, but we’ve identified the pickup that was Most Significant.”
The most significant trucks of the decade are:
2001 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Heavy Duty with 6.6-Liter Duramax Diesel
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
2004 Nissan Titan
2005 Toyota Tacoma
2006 Honda Ridgline
2007 Toyota Tundra
2009 Dodge Ram 1500
2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
2009 Ford F-150 (Most Significant Truck 2000-2009)
Honorable Mentions:
2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
2009 Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Two Mode Hybrids
“Every major automaker that sells pickup trucks here in the United States is represented on this particular list, which only seems fitting in today's competitive landscape,”
Autoblog says of the results. “Further, there's a truck for just about every need – no matter what size, towing power, seating capability or fuel mileage you are looking for, you'll find it offered here in the States... except perhaps for something really small.”
