The Dodge brand is a proud sponsor of the “Accidental Mummies of Guanajuato” exhibit at the Detroit Science Center.
Drivers of Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep® and Ram vehicles can show their keys for discounted entry to the 10,000 square-foot exhibit that features 36 “accidental” mummies from Mexico, each of which is more than 100 years old. The exhibit at the science center marks the first time the mummies have been seen outside of Mexico.
“Dodge sponsored the ‘Accidental Mummies’ exhibit because we want to enrich the cultural needs of our communities,” Fred DePerez, Head of Dodge MPVs and President of the Chrysler Hispanic Employee Network (CHEN), said. “As a leader in providing high-quality cars, SUVs and minivans to consumers, we are excited to let Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep drivers know that they hold the keys—not only to their vehicles—but also to a great educational display.”
The mummies are considered “accidental” because only one in 100 bodies buried in Guanajuato experienced this rare and mysterious process of natural mummification. Unlike bodies that were “artificially” mummified through an embalming and wrapping process, accidental mummies form only in certain climates and conditions.
“This exhibit is an amazing peek into the lives of Guanajuato’s most famous residents, and we hope that everyone who drives a Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep vehicle comes to see this wonderful sight,” Kevin Prihod, president and CEO of the Detroit Science Center, said.
Dodge also has its own display at the science center, which features the sleek, 25 mpg Dodge Challenger, named the “Most Appealing Midsize Sporty Car” by J.D. Power and Associates. The Dodge Journey, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick for 2009 and the most affordable seven-passenger AWD in its class, also is on display.
In addition, those who hold a Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep key will receive the reduced entry fee, of $19.95. A discounted rate to the exhibit of $14.95 will be extended to all Chrysler employees. The general admissions fee is $24.95. Chrysler employees also will be able to purchase annual family memberships for $49 (a retail value of $70).
Also, all visitors to the Detroit Science Center can stop by the Dodge display and enter to win a “Dodge Days Prize Pack,” which includes an annual family membership to the science center, a $50 gas card and Dodge apparel.
The Dodge brand has a history of supporting educational activities and projects, including “Splendors of Ancient Egypt,” “Angels from the Vatican,” “Degas and the Dance,” “Van Gogh: Face to Face” and “On the Edge: Contemporary Art from the DaimlerChrysler Collection” at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
“Accidental Mummies” will be on display at the Detroit Science Center until Jan. 31.
