Problems at a Magna International Inc. plant in Toronto led to a delay in 2008 model year cars coming off a Chrysler LLC assembly line in an example of how the upheaval in the North American auto parts industry is coming home to roost for the auto makers themselves.
Production difficulties with door panels produced by Magna's Ontegra plant in Toronto caused Chrysler to lose almost a week of production of its flagship cars in Brampton, Ont., just as the auto maker was gearing up for the new model year, industry sources said.
On a normal day, the plant turns out about 1,350 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger and Magnum vehicles, but production was as low as 29 cars on some days in late August, sources said.
