Ford Motor Co. is confident that consumers will embrace its new fuel-efficient engine, called EcoBoost, even though gas prices are almost $1.50 less per gallon than they were a year ago, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Ford plans to celebrate the official start of production for the engine today at its engine plant in Brook Park, Ohio, the Free Press said. EcoBoost combines turbocharging with the direct injection of gasoline to allow Ford to replace larger engines like V8s with smaller, more fuel-efficient engines like V6s, the paper said.
According to the Free Press, Ford plans to offer the engine as an option on the Lincoln MKS and Ford Taurus SHO sedans by the summer. By fall, Ford plans to offer the engine on the Lincoln MKT and Ford Flex crossovers. And by 2010, Ford plans to offer a V-6 EcoBoost engine for its F-150 pickup, the story said. (Detroit Free Press)
