Ford Motor Co. said today that the base price for its 2010 Ford Fusion mid-size sedan is $19,270 and $27,220 for the 2010 Fusion Hybrid, a hybrid gas-electric version. The 2010 Fusion is due in showrooms later this month. Ford is hoping it will take market share from the Toyota Camry, which is the top-selling car in the U.S., and other cars in its segment.
Toyota Motor Corp. said in February that the base price for its 2010 Camry is $19,395, and its hybrid costs $26,150.
Ford’s marketing campaign for the 2010 Ford Fusion and Ford Fusion Hybrid kicks off on Tuesday during “American Idol” on the Fox network and will emphasize Fusion’s fuel efficiency.
The Fusion’s fuel efficiency gain is part of an overall commitment announced by Ford last fall to be the best-in-class, or at least competitive, on fuel economy with new vehicles in every segment.
The Fusion gets 23 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway while the 2009 Camry gets 22 in the city and 33 on the highway for the 2.5-liter four cylinder engine with the six-speed manual transmission.
The hybrid Fusion is expected to get 41 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the freeway. The 2010 Camry hybrid gets an estimated 33 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway.
