Ford Flex sales take off
Ford crossover’s sales pick up after difficult timing

After more than a year on the market, the Ford Flex is finally starting to take off with customers as the economy begins to recover and positive word of mouth grows for the boxy, seven-seat crossover, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Ford had high hopes for Flex when the vehicle was launched in June 2008, the paper said. But the vehicle got off to a slow start because of its unconventional design and poor timing, the Free Press said. Gas prices blew past $4 per gallon last summer, followed by a global financial crisis in the fall.
Sales of the Flex, which starts at $28,550, chugged along at fewer than 3,000 per month throughout 2008—far less than the 70,000 to 100,000 Ford once said it hoped to sell annually, the paper noted. Now, the Flex is starting to establish itself, said Art Spinella, president of CNW Marketing research in Bandon, Ore., the Free Press said.
“People who have them really like them,” Spinella told the paper. His research shows the average customer satisfaction rating for the Flex is 9.3—on a scale of 1 to 10—following three months of ownership, the story said. (Detroit Free Press)
