Sales of the Ford Fusion have topped 151,000 units this year, making it the best-selling car from a domestic manufacturer, The Detroit News reported.
Ford Motor Co. today said its popular midsize sedan already has set a new annual sales record—pasting its previous high of 149,552 units set in 2007, the paper said.
“It’s extraordinary that a car could set a sales record in an environment where overall industry sales are down 26 percent from a year ago,” Ford sales analyst George Pipas told the News. In the first 10 months of this year, Fusion sales were 15 percent higher than they were during the same period in 2008, making it one of the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the country, the paper said.
Fusion sales received a big boost from the new Fusion Hybrid, which now accounts for nearly 20 percent of all Fusion retail sales, the paper said. And Ford said more than 60 percent of those buying the hybrid model are converts from other brands—primarily Toyota and Honda, the story said. (The Detroit News)
