Ford’s hourly workers face buyout deadline

Ford Motor Co.’s hourly workers have one more day to decide whether or not to accept the company’s latest buyout offer, which is part of a modified labor agreement ratified by UAW members in March, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Originally, the buyout window was set to expire May 29, but Ford extended the window by five weeks to give employees more time to consider, the paper said. Ford is offering the buyouts to all 42,000 hourly workers in the United States, except electricians and steam line engineers, the Free Press said.
The paper said the offer includes as much as $40,000 for skilled-trades workers or $20,000 for production employees who qualify for retirement and have at least 20 years of service. Those who aren’t eligible to retire are being offered up to $50,000 to leave, but many remain reluctant to take the offer, the story said. (Detroit Free Press)
