Ford Motor Co. on Friday confirmed plans to phase out production of its popular police car, the Crown Victoria, in 2011 at a plant in Ontario, the Detroit Free Press reported.
However, the Dearborn, Mich., automaker declined to say if that means the Crown Victoria police car would cease to exist afterward or confirm reports that it wants to replace the Crown Vic with a police version of the Ford Taurus, the paper said. Ford recently launched a new version of the Taurus, which is built in Chicago, the Free Press noted.
Ford produces the Crown Victoria at its St. Thomas Assembly plant in Ontario, and has told the CAW that it would not have a new product for that plant after 2011, the paper said. Ford also makes the Mercury Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Town Car in St. Thomas, the story said. (Detroit Free Press)
