Ford upgrade?
S&P sees potential Ford upgrade, but risks remain

Standard & Poor’s on Monday changed its rating outlook on Ford Motor Co. to developing from negative, saying it may raise Ford’s rating if losses continue to abate, though the risk of a downgrade is also significant, Reuters reported.
“There is now potential for us to raise Ford’s ratings in the next year or so,” S&P said in a statement, citing early signs of progress in reducing cash use and stabilizing its market share. A developing outlook means a rating may be raised, lowered or affirmed, the story said.
The rating could be upgraded if cash use and losses from global automotive operations continue to decline, leaving a cash balance of at least $15 billion, and the company improves its capital structure and copes successfully with global competition, the S&P said. S&P has raised Ford’s rating only once since December 1999, the story said. (Reuters)
