Ford workers mull buyout
Ford workers have day to mull buyout

After sticking at Ford Motor Co. through four rounds of buyouts since the fall of 2006, fewer hourly workers are interested, or able, to accept the latest offer to voluntarily leave the Dearborn automaker, UAW officials told the Detroit Free Press.
Those who do want to leave Ford have just one more day to decide whether to accept the latest offer, which would give some retirement-eligible employees a $40,000 payout and a $25,000 voucher for a car, the paper said. While that’s more lucrative than what employees in many industries are seeing these days, it’s less than Ford workers have been offered to leave in the past, the Free Press said.
“These are people who have hung on until the bitter end and are more likely to not take the offer,” John Lapinski, a benefits consultant and principal for the Southfield office of Buck Consultants, told the paper. “This offer doesn’t seem to be materially better than the previous offers, and the job market isn’t better.” (Detroit Free Press)
