FRANKFURT, Oct 2 New car sales in Germany fell by around half in September from August as the fund subsidising a scrappage scheme for old autos ran out of money, the Bild newspaper reported on Friday, citing a car dealers group.
"We have an absolute demand gap for small and low-cost cars," the paper quoted BVfK head Ansgar Klein as saying.
Official German new car registration data are due out later on Friday.
Germany had offered motorists 2,500 euros ($3,643) to scrap cars at least nine years old and buy new cars. The money ran out on Sept. 2.
