GM CEO predicts a profit this year

General Motors Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre predicted Wednesday the Detroit automaker will make money in 2010, though he noted the company still faces several obstacles, the Detroit Free Press reported.
“My prediction is we will be” profitable, Whitacre told reporters at GM’s headquarters in Detroit. “This business has been through a great deal—it’s an unsettled economy and there’s a lot going on—but certainly we’re aimed at profitability quickly, as quickly as we can get it.”
The company hasn’t turned an annual profit since 2004 and, according to bankruptcy filings, wasn’t expecting an annual profit until 2011, the paper said. (Detroit Free Press)
