For those who believe General Motors Corp. sells too many brands and too many models, the introduction of the 2010 GMC Terrain at the New York Auto Show on Thursday came with a fresh defense of why the company needs four brands in the United States, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The Terrain will join the 2010 Chevy Equinox and the Saturn Vue vying for customers seeking car-like, five-passenger SUVs, the story said. A fourth Cadillac variation is on the way, according to the Free Press.
Mechanically, the Equinox and Terrain are almost identical, with the Terrain having different styling and 3.3 cubic feet less interior space, the story said. The Equinox “blends function and style into a very sporty, yet upscale compact crossover,” while the Terrain is “an appealing choice for existing traditional SUV customers,” the paper said.
