GM Selling Trucks, SUVs at Costco

GM Selling Trucks, SUVs at Costco

Nov 08, 2011

2012 GMC Acadia

Next time you’re at Costco picking up 60 rolls of toilet paper, a gallon of ranch dressing and 50 pounds of sugar, you can also buy a new General Motors truck or SUV to haul your bulk purchases home.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to drive home from Costco in your new GM truck or SUV that day. Buyers will have to visit a participating dealership to take delivery of their new vehicle. New 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe and Traverse vehicles, as well as GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles are included in the promotion.

From now until Jan. 3, 2012, Costco members who want to take advantage of the promotion have to register with the Costco Auto Program, where they’ll receive an authorization number and PIN number to take to the local participating Chevrolet or GMC dealership. Costco says on its site that buyers will receive GM preferred pricing and can combine the discounted price with any current GM incentives and rebates.

Inside Line says that GM’s preferred pricing is “about equivalent to the discount that GM offers its suppliers’ employees.” Costco doesn’t specify the exact amount of the discount buyers will receive.

Autoweek says that this isn’t Costco’s first new-car buying program. “Costco has conducted similar programs for its members since 2007, including one with Volvo in November and December 2010,” Autoweek reports.

Costco and GM are optimistic about the program. “Costco executives expect their members to purchase as many as 5000 Chevy and GMC vehicles in the two-month period the special program runs,” PickupTrucks.com reports.

After the purchase is complete, Costco members can fill out a satisfaction survey and submit a redemption form to get a $500 Costco cash card, which they’ll receive in about six to eight weeks.

In a push to spark sales of Chevrolet and GMC, GM Co. entered into a partnership with Costco Wholesale Corp., reports Automotive News. Until Jan. 3, 2012, Costco members can buy a light General Motors truck or SUV from the Chevrolet or GMC line at select locations of the warehouse retail chain. Members can take advantage of a General Motors Preferred Price on the automobiles. I read this here: GM partners with Costco to sell lights trucks, SUVs.
